Required Abilities, Qualifications, and Experience
- Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment.
- Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
- Demonstrated ability to plan for and teach all required subjects at this grade level, effectively addressing the academic and social/emotional needs of a diverse group of students.
- Consistent use of current instructional practices to create a balanced literacy program; preference for candidates with experience in small group targeted literacy instruction.
- Consistent use of current instructional practices to create a balanced numeracy program; preference for candidates with experience in small group targeted numeracy instruction.
- Willingness to use District and Ministry data sets (ACT, SNAP, FSA, PM/RR) to identify student needs and inform teaching practices and team planning.
- Demonstrated ability and commitment to Indigenizing curriculum using the First Peoples Principles of Learning.
- Experience in intervening, supporting, and motivating struggling learners through a Response to Intervention (RTI) approach, especially in literacy and numeracy.
- Ability to recognize and adjust instructional practices based on individual student differences, through informal adaptations and formal CBIEPs.
- Knowledge and application of brain-based strategies related to self-regulation, mindfulness, and social-emotional learning (e.g., Calm, Strong Kids, Alert & Learning, Mind Up).
- Ability to support students with social/emotional strategies and trauma-informed practices.
- Ability to engage and motivate students through technology integration.
- Ability to set clear learning standards, establish effective classroom procedures, and foster positive relationships.
- Excellent classroom and behavior management skills; experience with Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is an asset.
- Commitment to social responsibility initiatives (e.g., Student Leadership, Check-in, Classroom Circles).
- Willingness to implement the goals and strategies of the School Growth Plan.
- Commitment to working collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and administration to promote a caring professional community.
- Engagement in professional development to enhance literacy, numeracy, social responsibility, technology use, and learner engagement.
