Job description

We invite applications for the temporary position of:

  1. 0.20 FTE Hub Alternate and Lifeskills Support Teacher
  2. Located at Lake Trail Middle School
  3. Please note this temporary position will end on June 30, 2025, or upon the return of the incumbent

The Lifeskills Support Teacher (Low Incidence) will work as a member of the Inclusive Education team to support students with low incidence challenges and Learning Support Teachers, classroom Teachers, Program Teachers, Education Assistants, the District Low Incidence Team, and parent/guardian(s).

Education / Coursework requirements:

  1. Degree in Special Education (i.e., postsecondary degree or diploma program with a special education concentration).
  2. Completed coursework designed to meet the diverse needs of exceptional learners in areas such as students with special needs, learning disabilities, strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum, differentiated instruction, and inclusive teaching practices.
  3. Minimum 3-5 years of recent teaching experience K-12.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  1. Working knowledge supported by coursework and experience of the special needs arising from autism spectrum disorder, moderate to profound intellectual disabilities, chronic health impairments, and students with dependent handicaps.
  2. Knowledge of a broad range of elementary and secondary curricula and the ability to support teachers in adapting and modifying curriculum for their students.
  3. Ability to design and implement programs to meet specific student needs.
  4. Ability to develop and instruct functional and Lifeskills curricula, including independent living and employment readiness skills.
  5. Ability to plan and implement social communication and executive functioning programs.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school administrators, teachers, parents, and community professionals.
  7. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and liaise with parent/guardian(s), community partners, and the Student Services Low Incidence Team.
  8. Leadership skills to support and train both teachers and paraprofessional staff, including problem-solving support.
  9. Knowledge and ability to implement computer programs and special education technology to support student achievement.
