Assignment Area(s): Grade 6/7 Generalist - Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Physical & Health Education, French, Fine Arts (i.e. Art, Drama), ADST (i.e. Makerspace, Coding, Multi-Media Presentations) and Careers

Salary Range: $59,711 to $109,520 (based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement)

Effective Date: Immediately but not later than March 1, 2025 (or return of teacher)

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment.
  2. Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Educations current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment.
  3. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
  4. Understanding and commitment to current middle school philosophy:
    1. Teaming: demonstrated ability and experience working with one or two other teachers to support a core group of students.
    2. Advisory: dedicated instructional time with students to foster connectedness and positive relationships to support adolescent development.
    3. Exploratory: providing students the opportunity to sample high interest courses.
    4. Collaboration: ongoing inquiry-based teamwork.
  5. Demonstrated successful classroom experience teaching at the middle school level.
  6. Consistent use of the most current instructional practices to create a powerful balanced literacy program to meet the diverse needs of learners; preference will be given to candidates with successful experience with small group targeted literacy instruction.
  7. Consistent use of the most current instructional practices to create a powerful balanced numeracy program to meet the diverse needs of learners; preference will be given to candidates with successful experience with small group targeted numeracy instruction.
  8. Willingness to use outdoor learning space as part of the extended classroom connecting place and space.
  9. Willingness to use District and Ministry data sets (ACT, SNAP, FSA, PM/RR) to identify student need and drive informed teaching practice and team teacher planning.
  10. Commitment and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of an assigned teaching team.
  11. Demonstrated ability and commitment to Indigenizing curriculum using the First Peoples Principles of Learning.
  12. Demonstrated use of highly successful assessment strategies in the classroom for, of and as learning.
  13. Demonstrated use of highly successful instructional strategies and lesson designs in the classroom (i.e. a Connect, Process, Transform, Reflect approach).
  14. Demonstrated experience intervening, supporting, and motivating struggling learners through a Response to Intervention (RTI) lens, particularly in literacy and numeracy key concepts.
  15. Demonstrated ability to recognize and acknowledge individual student differences and adjust instructional practices accordingly through informal adaptations and formal Competency Based Individual Education Plans (CBIEPs).
  16. Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate students in day-to-day lessons through the appropriate integration of technology.
  17. Demonstrated ability to set and clarify learning standards and to establish effective classroom procedures and relationships.
  18. Demonstrated excellent classroom management, behaviour management and classroom organization skills; experience with Positive Behaviour and Support (PBS) is an asset.
  19. Proven ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with students, staff, and parents.
  20. Proven ability to inspire confidence and self-worth in adolescents.
