Roles: Systems Safety Assurance Engineers (Permanent) in Toronto with hybrid working.

Responsibilities
  • Lead safety assurance efforts across projects, ensuring compliance with international safety and technical standards such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508, CSM-RA, and CSMRAE.
  • Report on progress, manage staff competence and development, and oversee internal audits to ensure governance compliance.
  • Coordinate safety studies throughout project lifecycle to meet safety requirements.
  • Manage safety activities, hazard logs, RAM reviews, V&V, T&C activities from a safety perspective.
  • Create and approve safety reports and safety cases.
  • Prepare technical reports for management, clients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Lead safety engineering activities for rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure projects to ensure standards compliance.
  • Facilitate HAZOP / HAZID workshops, including planning, execution, and documentation.
  • Manage risk assessments, including planning and conducting risk workshops.
  • Apply safety methods such as Safety Plans, PHA, FMECA, FTA, IHA, OSHA, SRIL, HL, V&V Safety Reports, and Safety Cases.
  • Review engineering safety documentation and project assurance deliverables.
  • Promote a safety culture and serve as a safety role model on projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent training.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant safety certifications are a plus.
  • Strong technical proficiency in large-scale railway projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of modern railway components and systems.
  • Expertise in applying safety standards like EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508, CSM-RA, and CSMRAE.
  • Experience in creating hazard logs, FMECA, FTA, IHA, OSHA, etc.
  • Understanding of railway project design and construction management.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder management.
