The Role

DILFO is seeking an experienced IT Systems & Operations Administrator to take the lead on maintaining and advancing our company-wide IT environment. This hybrid role blends technical systems administration with digital project delivery and vendor coordination. You'll be instrumental in supporting the infrastructure that powers our construction, finance, and field operations teams—ensuring reliable connectivity, secure systems, and seamless user experiences across the company.

Keys Tasks

The IT Systems & Operations Administrator’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Infrastructure & Systems Management

  • Administer servers, Windows environments, storage, virtualization (VMware), and network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, VPN, Wi-Fi).
  • Oversee cybersecurity tools, endpoint protection, and field technology needs across job sites.

Application & Project Support

  • Support construction and business software (e.g., Trimble, Bluebeam, Revit).
  • Lead and support IT projects, including integrations, upgrades, and process automation.

Cloud & Microsoft 365 Administration

  • Manage Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and user licenses.
  • Roll out new tools and features that improve collaboration and productivity.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement cybersecurity protocols and backup/recovery systems.
  • Ensure compliance with data security standards and construction-specific regulations.

Support & Vendor Oversight

  • Provide tier 2/3 support and act as the escalation point for internal staff and external IT vendors.
  • Monitor vendor SLAs and perform root cause analysis for recurring issues.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain system documentation, SOPs, user guides, and infrastructure records.
  • Track performance metrics and digital initiative outcomes.

Education

  • Diploma or degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field.

Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive IT experience in systems administration, IT generalist roles, or related.
  • Experience with hosted web servers on Linux-based systems.
  • Experience with construction or mechanical contracting environments is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, cloud platforms, virtualization, and cybersecurity practices.

Knowledge and Technical Skills

  • Strong technical skills in Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, networking, and virtualization platforms.
  • Ability to lead IT projects and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Comfortable supporting both field and office technology requirements.
  • Understanding of the unique IT needs of a mechanical construction environment, including mobile and field connectivity.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Primarily office-based with occasional visits to construction sites, warehouses, or remote workstations to support hardware or connectivity issues.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or desk.
  • May require lifting and transporting IT equipment (e.g., laptops, monitors, printers) weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, or climbing (e.g., to access network ports or equipment shelves).
  • May be required to work in environments with moderate noise (e.g., server rooms, construction trailers).
  • Occasional travel within the Ottawa region to job sites or off-site facilities as needed.
  • Must be able to respond to urgent IT issues outside of normal working hours on a limited basis.
