Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with electrical systems, control systems and automation concepts.
  • Experience with PLC programming and HMI design; proficiency in Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram or Structured Text.
  • Experience designing/troubleshooting fiber optic networks.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics (single-line diagrams, P&Cs).
  • Experience with HMI design, development, and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of automation, integration, and protection principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willing to travel 25-35% of the time.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada; valid Canadian Driver’s License; able to travel US/Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, and interpret electrical schematics and project docs.
  • Design/integrate PLC and HMI systems for renewable energy automation.
  • Integrate substation systems and devices (protective relays, RTACs, networks).
  • Lead, test, and troubleshoot electrical control systems.
  • Conduct on-site field commissioning (installation, power-up, network troubleshooting).

The Opportunity

The Systems Integrator III designs, develops, and commissions electrical control systems, with a focus on integrating PLC and HMI systems for efficient operation and communication. Collaboration with engineering teams is essential to ensure system compatibility and enhance substation efficiency. The Systems Integrator III ensures tasks are completed on time and within budget and reports to a Technical Manager or Engineering Supervisor.

What You'll Do
  • Create, maintain, and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and other project documentation.
  • Design and integrate PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems for the automation of renewable energy generation applications.
  • Perform the work for the integration of substation systems and devices, including protective relays, RTACs (Real-Time Automation Controllers), and communication networks.
  • Leads, tests, and troubleshoots electrical control systems under the guidance of upper-level integrators or independently to ensure proper functionality and performance.
  • Perform on-site field commissioning activities, such as system installation, device power up, and network troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and adhere to relevant industry standards and safety regulations, including NERC CIP.
  • Learn and adapt to new technologies and programming techniques.
What We Expect from You
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Experience applying electrical systems, control systems, and automation concepts.
  • Experience with PLC programming and HMI design. Efficiency in one or more programming languages (Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, or Structured Text).
  • Experience designing and/or troubleshooting fiber optic networks.
  • Experience interpreting electrical schematics, including single-line diagrams and P&C drawings.
  • Experience with HMI design, development, and commissioning.
  • Understanding and proven application of automation, integration, and system protection principles.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willing to travel 25-35% of the time
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess a valid Canadian Driver’s License and ability to meet company driving standards
  • Must have the ability to travel across the United States and Canada
  • Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong experience with one or more PLC or HMI platforms (e.g. Schneider Electric, SEL RTAC, Allen Bradley).
  • Experience with common industrial communications protocols including ModbusTCP and/or DNP3.
  • Substantial experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and related technologies.
  • Understanding and proven application of electrical schematics.
  • Experience with cybersecurity in industrial control systems.
  • Understanding of 3-phase power generation principles.
  • Experience in Inductive Automation's Ignition platform.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and implement Power Purchase Agreements and LGIAs and translate into control schemes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of voltage regulation concepts and ISO specific requirements.

Additional Opportunity Details:

Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $96,100 - $130,000 CAD
