This role requires getting it right through team collaboration and your expertise.

Working with our small but dedicated engineering team, you'll have local decision-making authority and the opportunity to shape our systems engineering capabilities.

This role demands deep experience in understanding, designing, and articulating the operational capabilities of electromechanical and electro-optical systems and subsystems. You should be able to adapt, communicate, and apply systems development fundamentals to specific customer applications and configurations.

This position is crucial for ensuring that complex airborne optical systems meet high standards for military, ISR, law enforcement, and public safety/search & rescue applications, maintaining high performance under challenging environmental conditions. The Systems Designer will advance stabilization and payload technology, ensure mission-critical reliability, communicate effectively with leadership, and collaborate with Project Engineering on tasks and priorities.

Responsibilities

The role includes fundamental Systems Engineering tasks such as:

  • Developing Concept of Operations, system requirements, and interface documentation for NPI and customer builds
  • Defining system configurations and developing hardware, equipment, and data deliverables
  • Collaborating with Engineering, Operations, and Production teams to meet contractual requirements
  • Managing multiple technical projects in a cross-functional environment, balancing stakeholder requirements
  • Developing new systems technologies, configurations, and applications for diverse customer needs
  • Becoming a subject matter expert on PVLabs' modular gimbal products for installation, integration, and verification
  • Providing engineering support for various projects including R&D, international localization, government contracts, and collaboration with defense primes
  • Supporting bids and proposals, analyzing customer applications, and preparing engineering estimates
  • Acting as a technical point of contact for customers from RFQ/Bid to post-delivery support

We seek an objective thinker who can view opportunities and problems from multiple perspectives, creating solutions that are practical for now and future-proof.

Desired Skills and Competencies

  • Hands-on electrical and mechanical skills
  • Post-secondary degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Physics, or related Engineering field
  • 10+ years of experience in architecture, specification, implementation, testing, and validation of complex mechatronic and optical systems
  • Knowledge of the entire Systems Engineering lifecycle, principles, and contractual obligations
  • Proficiency with Requirements Management tools (IBM DOORS or similar)
  • Understanding of MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, RTCA DO-160 standards
  • Strong leadership, planning, organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Proven problem-solving and decision-making in complex environments
  • Ability to evaluate options considering costs, benefits, and risks
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working with internal teams, customers, vendors, and labs
  • Recent relevant experience as a Systems Designer/Engineer on at least five programs, including complex international projects
