SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR III (BAND LEVEL 7)

Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science

(Permanent Position)

DUTIES

The Systems Administrator III is a full-time on-site support position within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS), reporting directly to the Manager of Engineering Computing Services (ECS). This position will be responsible for supporting systems and services to meet the needs of FEAS, as well as supervising and supporting the daily activities of ECS staff. Duties include:

1. Provisioning and administering both Microsoft Windows and Linux bare metal and virtual servers, storage solutions, and network equipment;
2. Developing and managing backup and disaster recovery strategies;
3. Consulting with faculty and research groups to formulate solutions based on client requirements;
4. Monitoring the use of resources;
5. Automating procedures;
6. Troubleshooting system failures and user errors;
7. Providing documentation and technical assistance;
8. Participating in systems architecture and planning;
9. Keeping current with industry standards, best practices, and new technologies;
10. Researching and reporting on industry trends to identify potential areas for improvement;
11. Performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Experience (3-5 years) in systems administration in an enterprise environment; completion of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. Essential knowledge includes proficiency with Microsoft Windows Server, Linux servers, system hardening, VMWare, Proxmox, Active Directory, Group Policy management, storage technologies, and backup solutions; as well as experience in scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell), including familiarity with version control systems programming, Apache web services, and network license administration and troubleshooting (e.g., flexlm, sentinel, RLM). The successful applicant must demonstrate excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities; strong communication and interpersonal skills; and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Experience in system security and team management is highly valued for this role.

SALARY $63,450 - $71,679 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)

An upscale hiring step has been applied to this position (Step 5).
