Job summary

Alteo Inc. in Montreal seeks a Systems Administrator to maintain and evolve the technology infrastructure on a permanent basis.

You will be the point person for server and systems architecture, ensuring performance, availability and security across critical environments. The role requires 7+ years in a similar position, strong virtualization knowledge (VMware, Citrix) and hands-on experience with Windows, AIX and Solaris.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• MSCE certification preferred.
• 7+ years in a similar Systems Administrator role.
• Strong virtualization knowledge and cloud experience.
• Experience with ITIL-based incident and problem management.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and upgrade virtualization environments and OSes (VMware, Citrix, Windows, AIX, Solaris).
• Ensure robustness, performance, and security across environments.
• Automate provisioning and optimize capacity and performance.
• Evaluate server fleet projects and recommend solutions.
• Participate in defining tech strategies and architecture.
• Conduct PoCs and monitor technology trends.
• Inform and support teams during major changes.
• Coordinate incident response and document solutions.

Job description

Alteo is looking for a Systems Administrator for a permanent position based in Montreal.

You will play a key role in the design, evolution, and maintenance of the technology infrastructure. As the point person for server and systems architecture, you will ensure their performance, availability, and security. Your expertise will help implement innovative technology strategies and ensure the stability of critical environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Infrastructure Management and Development

• Maintain and upgrade virtualization environments (SAN, VMware, Citrix) and operating systems (Windows, AIX, Solaris)
• Ensuring robustness, performance, and compliance with security standards
• Automating infrastructure provisioning and optimizing capacity and performance

Architecture and Technology Projects

• Evaluating projects related to the server fleet and recommending appropriate solutions
• Participating in defining technology strategies and implementing the architecture
• Conducting proof-of-concepts and monitoring technology trends

Support and Coordination

• Inform and support teams during major changes
• Coordinate incident response and document solutions
• Serve as a point of contact for various departments and management

Governance and Continuous Improvement

• Develop and implement tools, procedures, and work methods
• Ensure compliance with standards and requirements regarding stability and availability
• Participate in the development of security policies and budget planning

Resource and Vendor Management

• Oversee the maintenance and development of IT infrastructure and networks
• Negotiate and manage contractual agreements with vendors
• Manage the procurement, inventory, and disposal of IT equipment

PROFILE:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
• Recognized certification in the field of information technology (e.g., MSCE – Microsoft Certified System Engineer)
• 7+ years of experience in a similar role
• Extensive knowledge of hardware and software operating environments (infrastructure, matrices, digital signage applications, etc.)
• Expertise in virtualization with VMware 6.7 VSAN
• Very good knowledge of cloud solutions (Azure, Office 365)
• Good knowledge of SCCM / Intune
• Good knowledge of Citrix environments
• Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell)
• Knowledge of incident and problem management according to the ITIL framework
• Autonomy and attention to detail: Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while adhering to quality and security standards.
• Problem analysis and resolution: Critical thinking and a sense of initiative to diagnose and resolve complex issues related to IT infrastructure.
• Collaboration and technical leadership: Ability to work in a team, build trusting relationships, and positively influence technology decisions.

• Frequent travel: Travel may be required based on operational needs.
