Job description

Systems Safety Assurance role to work on one of the latest transit infrastructure projects in the Toronto area.

Responsibilities :

  • Accountable for leading safety assurance for various projects, ensuring compliance with relevant international safety and technical standards such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508, CSM-RA, and CMREA.
  • Responsible for reporting progress, managing staff competence and development, delivering and maintaining an internal audit schedule to ensure projects follow governance standards.
  • Coordinate safety studies throughout the project lifecycle to ensure safety requirements are met.
  • Manage, perform, and ensure safety assurance activities are applied across projects.
  • Manage Hazard Log, review RAM, V&V, T&C activities from a Safety perspective.
  • Oversee creation and approval of Safety Reports and the Safety Case.
  • Prepare technical reports for management, clients, and regulatory authorities.
  • Lead safety engineering activities for rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Facilitate HAZOP / HAZID workshops, including planning, running, and documentation.
  • Manage risk assessments, including planning and conducting risk workshops.
  • Possess knowledge of Safety Methods such as Safety Plans, PHA, FMECA, FTA, IHA, OSHA, SRIL, HL, V&V Safety Reports, and Safety Case.
  • Perform technical analyses and review safety management documentation and project assurance deliverables.
  • Promote a safety culture and serve as a safety role model on the project.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent training.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant safety designations are an asset.
  • Strong technical proficiency in safety aspects of large, complex railway projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Good knowledge of modern railway project components and systems.
  • Expertise in applying safety standards such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508, CSM-RA, CMREA.
  • Experience in creating Hazard Logs, FMECA, FTA, IHA, OSHA documentation.
  • Knowledge of railway project design and construction management.
  • Excellent communication skills for managing stakeholders.
