Our Client is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Rail System Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of engineering tasks, from administrative to strategic. The job location is in downtown Toronto, Canada.
Accountabilities
- Primary responsible for requirements management on the project and ensuring accuracy within the requirements management tool.
- Lead scope/requirement discussions with technical teams and customers.
- Lead System Requirements efforts and maintain the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM).
- Manage system requirements to ensure agreement with the customer and compliance with technical teams.
- Decompose System Requirements into lower-level elements and collaborate with engineering teams for proper allocation.
- Develop a deep understanding of subsystems provided by external suppliers to ensure system compatibility.
- Support the development of the Concept of Operations, including operational scenarios and use cases.
- Assist in System Architecture development (logical, functional, physical).
- Act as the cross-functional technical interface among product development, engineering, manufacturing, verification & validation, commissioning, and RAMS teams.
- Identify, define, and manage system interfaces.
- Support technical decisions in project engineering.
- Participate actively in defining optimal project technical solutions.
- Support customer and internal design reviews.
- Assist in lab, factory, and field testing, including executing System Integration Tests.
- Perform impact analysis for proposed system changes and support Configuration Management throughout the lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with company processes and standards like CMMI, CENELEC, AREMA, IEEE, IPC.
- Provide support to external stakeholders and participate in budget estimation.
Required Skills/Knowledge
- 5-8 years of engineering experience, with 3-5 years in a lead systems or design engineering role.
- Extensive understanding of engineering lifecycles, HW/SW integration, and delivering solutions to closure.
- Experience managing small to medium-sized projects and teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, requirements management systems (e.g., Doors), PLM systems, defect tracking, and configuration tools.
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and communicate complex ideas clearly.
- Technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Fundamental Systems Engineering concepts: V-lifecycle, System Architecture, Requirements Management, Configuration and Interface Management, and interaction of mechanical, electrical, and software components.
- Ability to multitask across multiple projects and be detail-oriented.
Desired Skills/Knowledge
- P.Eng license for Ontario, CA.
- Experience with construction/civil work and standards.
- Expertise in high-speed rail systems, power systems, EMI/EMC, telecoms, control systems, signaling, CBTC, and ERTMS.
- Experience collaborating across diverse, geographically dispersed teams.
- Knowledge of tools like Doors and BIM design process.
- Familiarity with FRA/FTA regulations.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
