Job summary

PhotonFirst in Alkmaar, NL is seeking a System Engineer to lead the entire technical side of complex engineering projects and contribute to the Technology Roadmap.

You will align optical, mechanical, electronic and software design decisions, ensure requirements traceability and manage technical risk through the full product lifecycle; collaborate across teams and with partners to bring multi-disciplinary solutions to life.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a System Engineer, Architect or Lead Development Engineer.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field (Physics, Systems/Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace Eng, Informatics).
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary development across electronics, mechanics, optics and/or software.
  • Experience with PCBAs outsourcing or development is preferred.
  • Strong communication and ability to connect diverse teams across projects.

  • Lead the technical side of complex engineering projects and contribute to the Technology Roadmap.
  • Design and realize cutting-edge photonic sensing solutions for customer applications.
  • Coordinate internal and partner efforts to achieve a common engineering goal.

The role
  • Leading the entire technical side of our complex engineering projects. These projects include a complete measuring solution for one of our customers or an internal engineering project, directly contributing to our Technology Roadmap;
  • Take the lead in the design and realization of our cutting-edge photonic sensing system empowering solutions at our customer applications;
  • Effectively collaborating, steering and connecting the joint efforts and available technical expertise to a common goal, internally and with our partners & customers;
  • Provide clarity and structure in the system definition and realization, aligning and connecting optical, mechanical, electronic and software design and trade-offs to a fully compliant system level;
  • Assuring system definition with requirements traceability and technical risk management through the entire development process and product lifecycle.
You
  • Have a passion for high tech and are willing to learn about our unique technology;

  • Like the dynamics of a small, fast moving company;
  • Hold a University (WO) or University of Applied Science (HBO) degree preferably in Physics, Systems-, Mechanical-, Electrical-, Aerospace Engineering, or Informatics;
  • Have at least 5 years of experience as a System Engineer, Architect or Lead Development Engineer;
  • Enjoy connecting all building blocks and bring a new solution to life;
  • Are an excellent communicator and connector;
  • Have a proven track record of developing products in relevant markets and technology domains, containing multiple technical disciplines such as electronics, mechanics, optics and/or software;
  • Have worked with a professional quality management system before;
  • Preferably have experience with the development and outsourcing of make-parts including dedicated electronics (PCBAs);
  • Are living in the Netherlands and available to operate from our office in Alkmaar.
