Lockheed Martin Canada is seeking a System Engineer to support naval development programs across Halifax, Montreal and Ottawa. You’ll participate in the full engineering life cycle—from specification and design to integration, testing and field troubleshooting of a complex naval subsystem within large-scale platform systems.

The role requires strong system design, architecture, requirements management, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

About the position

As a system engineer member of the subsystem of the naval development team in a multidisciplinary team environment, the candidate will participate in the complete engineering life cycle including specification, design, development, integration and testing, deployment, maintenance, and field troubleshooting of the subsystem for which they are responsible within large-scale and highly complex naval platform systems.

The candidate will participate in engineering activities which may include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

• Ensure the technical definition and development of system design and architecture
• Lead and coordinate system design activities with engineering personnel and support technical reviews
• Establish engineering planning and status
• Perform needs analyses
• Conduct market studies
• Review requirements, their allocation, and market studies
• Perform system modeling and design, including model-driven system engineering
• Define and track technical performance measures
• Work on system architecture and design
• Plan system integration
• Create the design document
• Apply system design engineering processes and best practices
• Interact with customers to ensure their participation and overall satisfaction.

What you bring to the position

• Hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university in a related discipline in mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, hardware, or systems engineering or equivalent combined experience and training, with at least nine years of professional experience, or at least seven years of professional experience with a related master's degree
• Any equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered
• Experience with software, systems, hardware, or maintenance engineering life cycle
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel of the engineering and management team as well as with personnel assigned to related tasks
• Aptitude for solving difficult problems within a team environment
• High degree of initiative or autonomy
• High learning ability
• Ability to adapt and perform duties within a dynamic environment.

Additional skills desired for the position

• Good knowledge of SysML or other object-oriented design methods
• Good knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS), Cameo, Clearcase, Clearquest, or Windchill
• Experience with Agile methods
• Experience in the naval domain of the army and coast guard
• Experience in sensor or ship integration
• Experience in change management, requirements management, testing and trials, security, safety, electromagnetic interference, electromagnetic compatibility, or environmental qualification.

Language requirements in Quebec

Knowledge of the English language is necessary for this position so that the candidate can perform all their duties. The position described in this job offer requires the candidate to communicate daily with a virtual team outside Quebec. The candidate will also need to communicate with various members of the organization, clients, and suppliers located outside Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate will also need to be able to read or modify technical documents from our main clients and write technical documents for these same clients.
