Elk Valley Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Casual Switchboard Operator Clerk to join their team in Fernie, B.C.!

This position works rotating days: 06:45 to 14:45, 09:00 to 17:00.

Work hours range from 0 to 37.5 per week, with shifts available on short notice or pre-scheduled to cover leaves. What Will You Work On?

Duties

  • Process calls (internal and external) and establish communication links.
  • Provide information to customers and assist in relaying messages to appropriate sources.
  • Answer emergency calls and follow established communication procedures in emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, bomb threats, and disasters.
  • Maintain Physician paging system and after-hours physician’s emergency lines as per established protocol.
  • Record and organize data to facilitate morgue operations. Inform appropriate personnel of any unusual circumstances and arrange transport with funeral homes as required.
  • Receive "On-Call" information from physicians and update data as needed. Communicate changes to relevant individuals.
  • Receive patient porter requests and dispatch transfers to the patient porter team.
  • Maintain confidentiality of classified information and keep the manager informed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
