Job summary

The City of Saskatoon is seeking a Project Manager (Sustainability) under the Sustainability Department to develop, implement, and support actions identified in the department’s strategies, including the Low Emissions Community Plan and Water Conservation Strategy. The role involves coordinating resources, guiding a project team, and ensuring quality across the project life cycle.

This position emphasizes strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, budgeting, and reporting.

Qualifications

• University degree with 7–9 years of progressively responsible project management experience including initiation, planning, execution and completion.
• Diploma with 10–12 years of progressive project management experience including initiation, planning, execution and completion.
• Experience working with diverse populations to deliver projects or programs.
• PMI PMP certification would be an asset.
• Knowledge of sustainability policy or program areas would be an asset.
• Knowledge of change, quality, and data management would be assets.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to conform to shifting priorities and timelines.
• Ability to make decisions promptly and clearly.
• Ability to express ideas clearly in oral and written reports.
• Ability to interact courteously with consultants, suppliers, the public and civic staff.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff.

Responsibilities

• Develops project charters to define scope, goals, and deliverables and communicates expectations to team and stakeholders.
• Plans and prepares project schedules, tracks budgets, milestones, deliverables, issues and risks.
• Estimates resources and negotiates with divisions and the Sustainability Department; prepares budget submissions.
• Defines project success criteria and communicates throughout the lifecycle.
• Directs long-range studies involving performance measurement and analysis.
• Develops and delivers progress reports, proposals, and presentations to stakeholders and committees.
• Supports project lifecycle from initiation to funding/operations transition.
• Supervises, coaches, mentors, and motivates project team members.
• Manages consultant contracts and proposals, including terms of reference and selections.
• Consults with public communications on engagement and public outreach.
• Promotes customer service culture and accountability.
• Addresses complex issues and facilitates collaborative solutions.
• Provides subject matter expertise and analysis.
• Performs other related duties as required.
