Job summary

The City of Penticton is seeking a Full-Time Temporary Sustainability Coordinator based in Penticton, BC. Reporting to the Sustainability Supervisor, the role focuses on planning, organizing, and developing sustainability initiatives to move Penticton toward a resilient, low-carbon future.

You will collaborate with departments and external partners to implement programs, manage projects and engage the community in reducing GHG emissions while supporting energy efficiency and sustainable mobility.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of sustainability policy and climate action.
  • Experience coordinating programs and engaging community stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with multiple departments and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Strategically implement energy and emissions reduction actions.
  • Track energy use, fuel consumption, and GHG emissions.
  • Monitor budgets, maintain records, and prepare reports.
  • Report progress on Climate Action Charter commitments and recommend improvements.
  • Engage community and industry stakeholders to identify policy opportunities.
  • Coordinate across City departments and with the public/external orgs.
  • Explore funding with utilities, government agencies, and others.
  • Plan and attend community events and workshops on environmental programs.
