Job summary

Vanier College in Montreal is seeking a part-time Sustainability Advisor who reports to the Health, Safety and Sustainability Manager. The role develops and administers tools and initiatives to improve sustainability practices and ensure a safe, healthy campus environment.

The incumbent provides practical support in sustainability, greenhouse gas accounting and environmental health, aligning with institutional priorities.

Qualifications

• Experience in sustainability, greenhouse gas accounting and environmental health.
• Ability to develop and administer sustainability initiatives aligned with the College’s priorities.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills for carbon emissions tracking and data collection.

Responsibilities

• Identifies, develops and helps implement sustainability initiatives aligned with the College’s strategic objectives, including carbon reduction, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and related priorities.
• Conducts and supports sustainability planning and reporting activities, including carbon emissions tracking and annual data collection and analysis.
• Supports biodiversity and environmental stewardship across campus operations and projects.
• Organizes activities for theme days (Earth Day, Bike Day, etc.).
• Provides practical advice and support to management on sustainability policies, procedures, projects and awareness initiatives.
• Identifies and helps implement campus procedures on environmental health, including asbestos awareness, chemical safety, air quality standards, mold exposure, drinking water and related priorities.
• Provides recommendations and administrative support to management and internal committees on sustainability and environmental health matters.
• Supports environmental health awareness across campus, including safe practices for hazardous products, chemical handling, storage, signage and related documentation.

Job Title: Sustainability Advisor (Part-Time)

Description

Reporting to theHealth, Safety and Sustainability Manager, the Sustainability Advisor developsand administers tools and initiatives to improve sustainability practices andsupport a safe, healthy and compliant campus environment. The incumbentprovides practical support to the College in the areas of sustainability,greenhouse gas accounting and mitigation, environmental health, and contributesto the development of effective solutions that align with institutionalpriorities.

More specifically, but not limitedto, the Sustainability Advisor:

• Identifies, developsand helps implement sustainability initiatives aligned with the College’sstrategic objectives, including carbon reduction, energy efficiency, wastereduction, and other related environmental priorities;
• Conductsand supports sustainability planning and reporting activities, including carbonemissions tracking and annual data collection and analysis;
• Supportsinitiatives that promote biodiversity, ecological principles, and soundenvironmental stewardship across campus operations and projects;
• Organizesactivities related to the different theme days (Earth Day, Bike Day, etc.);
• Providespractical advice and support to management on sustainability-related policies,procedures, projects and awareness initiatives;
• Identifies,develops, and helps implement campus procedures regarding environmental health,including asbestos awareness, chemical safety risks, air quality standards,mold exposure, drinking water, and other related environmental healthpriorities;
• Providesinformed recommendations and administrative support to management and relevantinternal committees on matters relating to sustainability and environmentalhealth;
• Supports environmental health awarenessthroughout campus, including the review and application of safe practicesrelating to hazardous products, chemical handling, storage, signage, andrelated documentation, in collaboration with the relevant departments;
• Helps with other tasks for the Health,Safety and Sustainability department as needed.

Other relatedtasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may beassigned.
