Role Overview:

McElhanney, recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, is actively seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Geomatics Technologist/Survey Technologist in Peace River at a junior to intermediate level. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on surveying experience with a multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of Land Surveyors and Survey Technologists as well as Civil Engineers and Technologists on a variety of legal, topographic, engineering and construction projects. Depending on your experience and career goals, this can be primarily a field-based position or, alternatively, a position that combines both office and field survey work. You will provide field survey services using conventional survey methods but may also work with Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS, a.k.a. drones), LiDAR (statics and mobile, terrestrial, and aerial), bathymetric systems, and more.

Salary Range: $31 - $46 per hour. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.

What You'll be doing:

  • Work as part of a Field Crew, preparing accurate notes, sketches, and field data.
  • Conduct conventional and GPS field surveys.
  • Interpret field data to create accurate survey drawings and legal plans. This will include downloading and editing field data, interpreting field notes and sketches, processing conventional and GNSS data, and preparing drawing deliverables.
  • Interpret Architectural and Engineering drawings for layout and as-built survey purposes.
  • Liaising with Project Managers and clients regarding project scope and enquiries.
  • Implementing quality assurance on all field returns and office deliverables.

What You'll Bring:

  • Two-year technical diploma in Geomatics and/or 2-5 years of previous experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with RPAS systems including basic and advanced pilot license is a strong asset.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D, Trimble Business Centre and Trimble Access is a strong asset.
  • Physically fit, able to work in wildlife populated areas, and willing to work in remote areas for extended periods and varied hours.
  • Knowledge of survey and boundary calculation, geodetic coordinate systems and map projections.
  • Basic understanding of the Alberta Land Titles system.
  • Adherence to corporate safety policies and reporting.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to work independently to complete tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
