Job summary

Stantec, a leader in sustainable engineering, is seeking a Survey Technologist for their Geomatics team in Northern Alberta. This role offers the opportunity to engage in diverse surveying tasks that support community development and environmental sustainability, providing critical data for various engineering projects. Successful candidates will possess a degree in Geomatics or Civil Engineering and demonstrate a commitment to safety and accuracy in their work.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Party Chief surveying on Oil & Gas and construction projects/sites.
  • A valid Vehicle Operator’s License and clean driving record required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Geomatics team has several immediate full-time opportunities for the role of Survey Technologist in Northern Alberta. The Earth is top of mind for our Geomatics team. On, above, and under the Earth’s surface, we provide our clients a full range of surveying and mapping services. Through our work, we define land boundaries and analyze spatial data. Your Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment by promoting and maintaining a culture of safety by compliance with Stantec and client safety systems, policies, procedures, environmental requirements

  • Performing a variety of Oilsands related surveys and buried facility locating with minimal supervision

  • Conducting comprehensive topographic, legal, bathymetric, earthworks, civil construction (roads, corridors, piping, slopes, structures) as-built surveys

  • Plan for blast drill hole positions, shovel digging lines, ramp gradients and berm designs

  • Conduct 3DLS and aerial drone surveys of the mine site

  • Consult, collaborate and share survey data with engineering, QA/QC and contract personnel

  • Prepare and maintain sketches, maps and reports of survey data to describe/certify work areas

  • Providing complete and accurate survey data, notes/sketches, and supporting information in accordance with a Data Quality Management System

  • Proficiency managing data with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or other survey related software is an asset

  • Effective communication with Project Manager as to progress updates, scope changes, HSSE reporting and other project impacts

  • Depending upon experience, this position may assist with field training, crew supervision, and/or provide crew coordination on larger projects

  • Performing routine survey functions associated with mining advancement

  • Assisting with special assignments related to mine optimization and productivity, grade control, inventory, shaft, and geotechnical projects "

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to execute surveys in a safe, accurate, efficient, and detailed manner

  • Experience tracing buried facilities using Electromagnetic Locating techniques

  • Proficiency with 3D Laser Scanners, GPS, drones, total stations and Electromagnetic Locators. Working knowledge of Trimble GPS and Trimble Total Stations is an asset

  • A valid Vehicle Operator’s License and clean driving record is required for this position

  • Ability to undergo and successfully pass pre-employment testing including but not limited to:- Breath alcohol test

  • Urine drug test.

  • Fitness to work test

  • Audiometric test

  • Vision screening

  • Criminal record test

  • Safe driving screening

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Party Chief surveying on Oil & Gas and construction projects/sites

  • A degree or diploma in Geomatics or Civil Engineering (or equivalent) from a recognized institution is preferred but not required This position will require travelling to various sites across Alberta and working out of town and/or province for extended periods of time.
