Job summary

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. is hiring a Survey Crew Chief in Edmonton, Alberta. This full-time role involves performing various types of surveys with minimal supervision. Candidates should have experience with topographic and legal surveys, and be proficient with GPS and total stations.

Survey Crew Chief – Stantec Geospatial Services Group (Edmonton, Alberta)

Stantec’s Geospatial Services Group offers a full‑time role for a Survey Crew Chief.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of surveys, including topographic, legal and construction surveys with minimal supervision.
  • Field work may include specialized services such as 3D laser scanning, bathymetric surveys, unmanned aerial systems and buried utility locating; experience in these areas is an asset.
  • Actively participate and promote Stantec’s Health & Safety culture and awareness.
  • Communicate with Project Managers and Field Coordinators regarding progress updates, scope changes, HSSE reporting and other project impacts.
  • Act as a company representative, liaising directly with client field representatives and land owners.
  • Perform some office technical survey work as required.
  • Apply strong problem‑solving skills in a field environment.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and produce accurate and legible field notes.
  • Manage information flow from field to office and prepare clear, concise, accurate field notes, records and calculations.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience tracing buried facilities using electromagnetic locating techniques.
  • Execute surveys accurately, efficiently, and safely.
  • Proficiency with GPS, Total Stations and electromagnetic locators; working knowledge of Trimble GPS and Trimble Total Stations is an asset.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel to various sites across Canada.
  • Experience working in remote field environments.
  • Physical ability to work in mountainous and forested terrain and lift/carry heavy equipment.
  • Willingness to work in varied environmental conditions, wildlife‑populated areas, remote field areas for extended periods and varied hours.
Education and Experience
  • Technical degree, diploma, certificate or equivalent in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of field survey experience.
  • Required certifications (must have or be able to complete): Standard First Aid, H2S Alive, WHMIS, CSTS 2020, CSO, Line Locating Certification, Valid Driver’s License.

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. The final agreed compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience and work location. Certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles is pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
