The Survey/CAD Technician is responsible for supporting field surveying operations, maintaining GNSS and Robotic total station equipment, and producing accurate data for construction projects. The role involves fieldwork and office duties, such as conducting surveys, preparing CAD drawings, managing machine control systems, and providing technical support to field teams. This position collaborates with project management, estimating, and field operations teams to ensure precision in construction layouts, data processing, and machine control systems.

Your Day-to-day Will Look Like

  1. Operate and maintain GNSS and Robotic total station surveying equipment.
  2. Configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot machine control systems for heavy equipment.
  3. Provide field support for survey equipment, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy.
  4. Prepare and manage field data files using AutoDesk Civil 3D and other relevant software.
  5. Process survey data for volume assessments, QA/QC, and as-built documentation.
  6. Create and update CAD drawings based on field data and project requirements.
  7. Perform inspections, testing, diagnostics, and repairs on electronic devices and components.
  8. Use test equipment like oscilloscopes and multimeters to diagnose surveying equipment issues.
  9. Install, calibrate, and repair machine control systems with electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic components.
  10. Troubleshoot machine control system issues to ensure proper operation.
  11. Manage and maintain survey equipment, ensuring timely repairs and calibrations.
  12. Maintain logs for survey assets, maintenance, and calibration.
  13. Prepare and submit technician reports and documentation of work performed.
  14. Provide technical support and training to field personnel.
  15. Document survey procedures, results, and equipment maintenance.
  16. Collaborate with field crews, project managers, and estimating teams for seamless communication.
  17. Assist in resolving technical issues during surveying or data processing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent; technical trade program in surveying or electronics preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in land surveying, civil construction, or related field.
  • Proficiency in AutoDesk Civil 3D, Topcon Magnet Suite, GNSS/Robotic Total Station systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors.

Preferred Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in terrestrial and satellite-based land and hydrographic surveying.
  • Knowledge of civil construction processes.
  • Experience with machine control system installation, calibration, and repair.
  • Understanding of survey QA/QC and volume assessments.
  • Ability to perform diagnostics and repairs on electronic surveying equipment.
