Reports to: Director of Specialty Services Department: Surgery Status: Full-time Permanent (40 hours per week); part time negotiable

Overview:

Are you a Board-Certified or Residency-Trained Veterinary Surgeon looking to join a collaborative, well-supported surgical team? Boreal Veterinary Centre in Edmonton, Alberta is seeking a third surgeon to join our expanding surgery department.

At Boreal, you’ll be stepping into an established and thriving specialty and emergency practice where multidisciplinary collaboration is a cornerstone of our culture. Our private, independently, and locally owned hospital is designed for innovation and excellence, with 3 fully equipped surgical suites, CT imaging, fluoroscopy, Arthrex scope tower (laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, and arthroscopy), and an advanced in-house laboratory.

You’ll join a team that already includes two board-certified surgeons who are able to provide mentorship if necessary, along with specialists in Internal Medicine, Emergency & Critical Care, Anesthesia, Cardiology, and Oncology. Our 24/7 Emergency DVMs also support your cases overnight to ensure the highest quality of care. Our highly skilled and dedicated Registered Veterinary Technologists are experienced in advanced perioperative care and anesthesia, and are excited to support surgical expansion.

Position Summary:

As our third Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll play a key role in supporting and growing the surgical caseload alongside your colleagues. You’ll manage a wide range of soft tissue and orthopedic cases (as well as neurology cases if desired), collaborate with other departments for optimal patient outcomes, and share your knowledge to mentor our veterinary staff.

  • Diplomate status (ACVS/ECVS) or completion of a residency in small animal surgery and ability to write board examination
  • Proficiency in soft tissue and/or orthopedic procedures
  • A collaborative, team-first mindset with strong communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for mentorship, innovation, and patient-centered care
  • A positive attitude and dedication to continual learning
  • A passion for teaching summer students, final year veterinary student primarily from UCVM and WCVM, and a newly established internship program
