Job summary

VCA Canada is seeking a Board-Certified Oncologist for our Edmonton specialty hospital. You will join a growing team delivering advanced oncologic care to small animals and supporting our referral network through education and collaboration.

The role includes mentorship of interns and residents, with a focus on expanding access to innovative treatment options and ensuring the highest standards of patient care in a collaborative, state-of-the-art facility.

Responsibilities

Guardian Veterinary Centre is a well-established specialty hospital in Edmonton, offering surgery, internal medicine, critical care, and a robust 24-hour emergency department. Since 2007, we have built strong relationships within our referral community, serving Northern Alberta, Northern British Columbia, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

As our hospital continues to grow, we are seeking to add a Board-Certified Oncologist to our specialty team to expand access to advanced surgical care and provide our referral community with additional support. In addition to delivering exceptional patient care, this role will play an active part in supporting and educating our referral network throughout the year, sharing expertise on innovative surgical procedures, treatment options, and advancements in veterinary surgery.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a veterinary surgery residency program, with board certification or eligibility to sit for the certification examination
• Strong client communication skills with a commitment to partnering with pet parents, providing clear explanations of surgical procedures, discussing expected outcomes, and offering compassionate support throughout their pet’s care journey
• Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and maintaining high clinical standards
• Passion for mentoring interns, residents, and support staff in a collaborative learning environment

Our facility is a well-equipped, state of the art, 20,000 square foot hospital including 24-hour staffing, newly updated CT, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, endoscopy, and arthroscopy. We are excited to be expanding this year to include 10,000 square feet of additional facilities including installation of an MRI, a dedicated ICU, and extra exam and procedure rooms. We also have an onsite digital cytology analyzer, resulting in very quick turnaround times for clinical pathology reports.
