Overview

Reporting to the Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor, the Surface Electrician will be responsible for delivering electrical support to surface operations, ensuring the efficient and safe operation of electrical systems and equipment.

About the Company The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory. Keno Hill is one of the highest-grade silver districts in the world, located 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun. It comprises 242 square kilometres with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7-3.1 million ounces of silver in 2025 as the mine ramps up production. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Hecla has a long history as a precious metals producer and is a safety and environmental award winner. Responsibilities
  • Support surface mine electrical needs, in compliance with Federal and Yukon Electrical Codes and related regulatory/safety requirements.
  • Be willing to support underground mine electrical needs as required.
  • Ensure Federal / Yukon Electrical Codes and related regulations remain in compliance.
  • Installation, troubleshooting and repair of low, medium and high voltage circuits.
  • Installation, troubleshooting and repair of A/C motors and variable speed drives.
  • Programming, installation and maintenance of PLCs and HMI systems.
  • Electrical maintenance as required on all milling and mining equipment.
  • Provide direction, support and guidance to Apprentices as required.
  • Work cooperatively as a member of the Maintenance Team.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Help promote a strong environmental culture and teach environmentally friendly values and work practices.
  • Help foster a strong safety culture, promoting and exemplifying safe work practices.

Qualifications
  • 5 years related experience as a Journeyman Electrician.
  • Interprovincial Journeyman ticket.
  • Experience in a remote mining or industrial environment is an asset.
  • Ability to develop and foster strong working relationships.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • Pre-Employment Testing (drug & alcohol, blood lead, and audiogram)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License

Work Environment

Regular exposure to outdoor weather, extreme temperatures, potential wildlife, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, airborne particles, chemicals, and use of explosives. Risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration. Noise levels can be loud depending on task or location.

Work Location & Schedule

This is a fly-in fly-out position based at a remote mining camp, operating on a rotational schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off. Camp accommodations and meals are provided. Travel to and from the mine site is arranged through a designated travel agency and coordinated from approved flight hubs.

We are primarily seeking candidates who reside in the Yukon, British Columbia, and Alberta, particularly near major transportation centers within these regions.
