Job description

EPC Canada is a dynamic, fast-growing company. It is 100% owned by the EPC Group, an international manufacturer of commercial explosives with extensive experience and expertise in storage and distribution in the mining, construction and quarrying industries.

EPC Canada is looking for an experienced Blaster for its explosives distribution and blasting operations at its Côté Gold site in Ontario. Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the blaster will be responsible for designing, preparing and detonating planned blasts in accordance with customer requirements, ensuring the proper, safe and efficient use of EPC Canada explosives.

  • Carry out rock removal work using explosives;
  • Rigorously apply and follow safety rules and instructions;
  • Handle explosives and set off blasts to fragment rock.
  • Link fireworks together to create a pyrotechnic chain;
  • Apply practices that comply with company and customer policies and procedures derived from applicable technical modules, as well as regulatory and safety policies and procedures;
  • Connect charges with selected detonators, primers, detonator wires and other materials;
  • Handle and store explosives and accessories in accordance with regulations, and ensure that safety measures are observed;
  • Complete blasting reports, inventory records and other appropriate documentation;
  • Participate in the investigation of all complaints concerning products and explosions that have failed to meet expected performance targets;
  • Maintain professional customer relations;
  • Understand and improve service requirements with a view to continuous improvement of business practices;
  • Work closely with technical and operational team members;
  • Perform all other tasks related to the position.

Qualifications required

  • Professional training in drilling and blasting, or other training in an equivalent or related field;
  • Recognized Blaster certification;
  • Significant experience of two (2) to (5) years in the field;
  • Knowledge of explosive products and legislation governing the transport of hazardous materials;
  • No legal impediments related to employment;

Conditions of use

  • Permanent, full-time position;
  • 44-hour week from Sunday to Saturday;
  • Paid overtime after 44 hours;
  • Working hours 14/14;
  • Have an interest in working in extreme climatic environments on occasion;
  • Be in good physical shape.
