For over 35 years, Umbrella Family and Child Centres of Hamilton has been dedicated to providing high-quality, inclusive, and accessible programs for young children and their families. We operate over 27 full-day early learning and childcare centres across the Greater Hamilton Area, offering services for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children with extended before and after school care. Who We’re Looking For
We’re searching for a compassionate and motivated Support Worker to join our team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children! This role will focus on supporting children with physical, behavioural, and mental health needs.

As a Support Worker, you’ll be working at our Ancaster Meadow location for 13.75 hours a week, Monday to Friday 3:15pm-6:00pm (in after care, school-age group) under the guidance of the Supervisor. This is a permanent part-time position.

The hourly rate will be $20.71 per hour as per the collective agreement (including wage grants)

What You Bring to the Role
Experience
  1. Hands-on experience in supporting children with diverse needs (physical, behavioural, or mental health)
  2. Experience administering insulin and managing blood sugar readings
  3. Ability to implement child-specific strategies, including medication and meal management
Education
  1. Minimum Secondary School diploma or equivalent
  2. Personal Support Worker certificate (preferred but not required)
Certifications
  1. Standard First Aid with CPR level C
  2. Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  3. Proof of up-to-date immunizations (TB, Tetanus, MMR)
  4. Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations
Skills & Characteristics
  1. Knowledge of How Does Learning Happen? is an asset
  2. Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively and professionally with children, families, and staff
  3. Physically able to stand, walk, and assist with equipment and devices
  4. A dedicated advocate for diversity, equality, and inclusion
  5. Capable of working independently and as part of a dynamic team
What You’ll Do
In this role, you’ll play a key part in supporting children, families, and staff where additional resources are needed. You will:
  1. Work closely with program staff to implement classroom and child management techniques
  2. Assist with documentation and updates on Individual Support Plans (ISPs)
  3. Collaborate in alignment with How Does Learning Happen? to ensure a holistic and supportive environment for each child
