MacEwan University is seeking applicants for a Support Specialist, Identity & Access Management for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Information Technology Services department.
The Support Specialist, Identity and Access Management (IAM) is responsible for providing technical support for identity and access management-related services, including account provisioning, authentication, authorization, and directory services. You will ensure secure and efficient access to systems and applications by administering IAM technologies, troubleshooting access issues, supporting integration with enterprise systems, and maintaining accurate identity data across platforms. In addition, you will also contribute to compliance efforts, user experience improvements, and ongoing enhancements to IAM tools and processes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and analyzing each incoming request and anticipating support resources that could be provided. Then responding promptly and professionally, actively listening to and discussing concerns and addressing these concerns by gathering details/requirements expressed by the end user, providing solutions or escalating to the appropriate ITS member as needed;
- Evaluating and escalating complex or critical technical issues to the Senior Analyst, IAM, the Enterprise Applications team, or other Tier 3 support when a workaround isn’t feasible, coding changes are required, or there are broader technical impacts. Continuing to monitor the ticket, including liaising with Tier 3 staff to obtain updates, and serving as the client-facing support, providing updates to the end user until the ticket is resolved;
- Administering and supporting the installation, configuration, tuning, and updating activities for IAM application technologies, including, but not limited to, Java virtual machines, Java web application servers, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) systems, IAM integrations, Microsoft Azure Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, and MacEwan's single sign-on (SSO) infrastructure; seeking guidance from the Senior Analyst, IAM as required;
- Processing access requests, role assignments, and entitlement changes in accordance with established access policies, procedures, and standards;
- Providing active support to application administrators to make sure applications are properly integrated into the University's IAM environment;
- Interacting with help desk staff to provide support on identity and access issues, and with Microsoft and Google Cloud infrastructure administrators to ensure proper identity and affiliation propagation; and
- Providing training and mentoring to help desk staff and application administrators around identity and access management technology and processes.
Skills
You will have:
- A demonstrated passion, interest, and understanding of trends and best practices in Identity & Access Management and Information Security;
- Demonstrable IT skills such as working with enterprise technology environments and modern platforms such as cloud service providers and security software;
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), including the ability to communicate effectively with external stakeholders and internal stakeholders at varying levels within the organization and to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build/maintain strong working relationships;
- A strong attention to detail, along with excellent organizational, time management, analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills;
- The ability to multitask, take initiative, demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing situations and priorities, while still meeting critical deadlines;
- The ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment; and
- Experience with various computer networks, operating systems, software, hardware, and diverse operating systems and platforms such as: Linux, Windows, macOS, iPhone, Android, and cloud environments and service providers such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
- Designation in a foundational Information Security certification (such as ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity or ISC2 Systems Security Certified Practitioner, CompTIA Security+, Google Cybersecurity Certificate) would be considered an asset (if not currently certified, MacEwan will provide support to obtain the certification within the first year of employment).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience supporting or administering Identity and Access Management systems, software development, and enterprise applications or a related role.
- Experience in supporting projects with elements of change management and compliance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of information security frameworks.
- Experience working within a post-secondary or public sector environment would be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Position Requirements
- This position may be required to work overtime, including occasional evening or weekend work to accommodate system maintenance or urgent user support.
