Support Services Assistant - Medical

Job Details

Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years.

Work setting: Home care and visiting care agency, Physician's office, Hospital/medical facility or clinic, Medical clinic, Health care institution, facility or clinic.

Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Assist with cleaning, sterilizing, setting up and assembling of medical equipment.
  • Perform other duties related to patient care and comfort.
  • Take patients' blood pressure, temperature and pulse.
  • Weigh, lift, turn and position patients.
  • Deliver messages, reports, requisitions and specimens between departments.
  • Make beds and maintain patients' rooms.
  • Administer suppositories, colonic irrigations and enemas.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Transport patients between care facilities.
  • Transport patients in wheelchair or stretcher.
  • Answer call signals to determine patients' needs.
  • Collect specimens.
  • Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving and sterilizing operative areas.
  • Schedule and confirm appointments.
  • Perform administrative tasks.
  • Ensure infection control.
  • Administer medications.
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative personal and comfort care.
  • Provide wound and bandage care.
  • Monitor patients and advise physician of any changes in patients' condition.
  • Provide technical assistance to surgeons by laying out instruments, setting up equipment, assisting surgical teams with gowns and gloves and passing instruments to surgeons.
  • Provide patient and family education.
  • Interview patients.
  • Ensure that quality nursing care is provided to patients.
  • Assist with record management.

Minimum Requirements

Experience

2 years to less than 3 years.

Certificates, Licences, Memberships, and Courses

  • Continuing Care Assistant Certification
  • First Aid Certificate
  • CPR Certificate
