British Columbia Rapid Transit Company Ltd. (BCRTC) maintains and operates the Expo and Millennium SkyTrain Lines from our central facilities in south Burnaby. Our services connect downtown Vancouver to Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Moody, and Surrey. With ongoing expansion projects, infrastructure renewal, and new asset acquisitions, this is an exciting time to join our team of over 1,200 employees, working on one of the longest fully-automated rapid transit systems in the world.
Our roles include administration, engineering, elevator and escalator maintenance, field operations, vehicle maintenance, and wayside (station and guideway) maintenance.

Overall Purpose: The Support Equipment Tradesperson inspects, maintains, repairs, and overhauls support equipment in accordance with industry standards, company policies, and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Annual fit testing required; respirator use may be necessary. Employees must be clean shaven for fit testing. Exemptions should be discussed with Occupational Health or Labour Relations.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. BCTQ and/or Interprovincial Certification as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic, Commercial Transport Mechanic, or Industrial Mechanic. Red Seal Automotive Technicians with relevant qualifications may also be considered. Must have served an apprenticeship or equivalent.
Valid Class 3 BC driver’s license with air brake endorsement. CVIP, welding, and electronics certification are assets.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years recent experience in equipment and machinery maintenance at the Red Seal/Journeyperson level. Experience in troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of equipment. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Recruitment involves demonstrating minimum qualifications and experience. Selection includes general, scenario, and behavioral interview questions.
Work Schedule: 40 hours/week.
Work Designation: Resident, primarily on-site.
Rate of Pay: $56.85/hour. New employees start at a trainee rate of 75% for 6 weeks, then 90% for the remainder of the first year. Benefits include health, dental, transit, pension, training, and wellness programs.
