Job summary

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a Supply Technician to manage procurement and inventory services for the Architectural trades team. The Real Estate Division of the Department of Public Works provides a variety of services to all the provincial government Departments, Boards, Agencies, and Commissions.

About Our Opportunity

As the Supply Technician, you will be responsible to procure, coordinate, receive, and distribute a variety of goods and services as required by clients of the Inventory & Supply Chain section, primarily purchasing for the Architectural trades team.

Primary Accountabilities

The Primary accountabilities of this role are to ensure an adequately stocked and cost-effective parts and supplies stores room is maintained and kept neat and organized. Aspects of this include:

  • Creating and issuing purchase orders to suppliers.
  • Purchasing parts and supplies using existing standing offers as well as considering best value procurement strategies.
  • Strategically combining goods requests from various requestors/jobs to reduce administrative costs and facilitate a more competitive quoting process.
  • Receiving goods by confirming order accuracy and placing items into the appropriate location in stock rooms.
  • Co-ordinating and receiving goods on active construction sites when required.
  • Picking material to create material packages for projects/work based on provided schedules.
  • Maintaining detailed sign-out logs and coordinating the movement of tools and equipment used by trades to minimize losses.
  • Proactively analysing large datasets of purchasing history, making recommendations on stock levels considering current and future demands.
  • Ensuring all parts and supplies are removed from stock and are charged to the appropriate work order when required.
  • Ensuring stock items, including critical safety equipment and PPE are in good working order, ensuring obsolete and/or damaged stock is returned, declared surplus or disposed of.
  • Ensuring that parts books and catalogues are kept up to date.
  • Supervising and/or conducting all aspects of the parts stock room(s) annual or cycle counting inventory checks.
  • Providing coverage for other supply technicians absences.

Qualifications And Experience

As the ideal candidate, you will require high school completion plus post‐secondary training related to the position and 5 years of related experience in a buyer position; or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

The Following Are Considered An Asset

  • A professional designation/certificate in the supply chain field such as CSCMP, SCMP, SMT, P.Log, CCLP or PSPP.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, plus related work experience in sourcing/buying construction materials.
  • Forklift Certification – Training will be provided if not already certified, however the ability to operate a forklift is a requirement of this position.

Travel across the province is a requirement of this position; as such, a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.

  • A strong commitment to customer service.
  • Experience in managing inventory systems.
  • The ability to process a large volume of work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work safely under minimum supervision.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, SAP, Archibus).

Working Conditions

This role is primarily based in a comfortable office environment, and you may be working at your computer for extended periods of time. You may be required to travel within the province to visit sites or regional offices.

Salary Range: $1,864.28 - $2,189.32 Bi-Weekly
