Job summary

Candidates must have a Bachelor of Education and a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. Experience in First Nations education is preferred.

Qualifications

Summary

A Teacher, under the direction of the principal, is responsible for delivering the planned and approved curriculum to students. A Teacher shall plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in accordance with the professional standards as they are outlined in the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard, the Teacher Growth, the Alberta Supervision and Evaluation Policy and the Ministerial Order (#001/2013) on Student Learning. In addition, a Teacher will create a learning environment that encourages students to realize their potential pertaining to Nehiyaw core values as outlined in the Maskwacis Declaration on Education.

As an employee in the organization, you will model the intent of the Maskwacis Declaration on Education and the core values of Wahkohtowin, Iyiniw Mamotohnehickikan, Nehiyaw Pimatisiwin,and Nehiyawewin. This is evident by:

  • Ensuring that decisions are made to the ultimate benefit of Maskwacis students;
  • Assisting the Superintendent and the board to ensure that all students benefit from their treaty right to a quality education;
  • Respecting the Cree language, spirituality, and traditions within the Education Authority; and
  • Providing Maskwacis leadership (the Cree way) in all matters relating to education in the Maskwacis Schools: consensus building, creating dialogue with stakeholders, and empowering leadership in the system.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Meet the professional practice standards as they are outlined in the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard.
  • Meet and adhere to the requirements of the Alberta Teacher Growth, Supervision and Evaluation Policy as it relates to the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education degree.
  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Ability to speak Cree will be considered an asset.
  • Experience teaching in a First Nations context will be considered an asset.
