Supply Paraprofessionals (Educational Assistants/Child and Youth Workers) All Schools

The Waterloo Region District School Board, located in Canada’s innovation heartland, is dedicated to celebrating each student's unique gifts by creating limitless opportunities for growth and success. Serving approximately 65,000 students across 16 secondary and 106 elementary schools with about 11,000 staff members, the Board offers a comprehensive educational program. We are currently seeking applications for ‘Supply Paraprofessionals (Educational Assistants/Child and Youth Workers).’ These supply Paraprofessionals will work under the supervision of the school Administrator and follow the guidance of teachers at their assigned sites. They may support students with various special needs, including assistance with behavior, safety, medical, and physical needs. Employment as an EA/CYW requires passing a Physical Demands test, and all offers are conditional on passing this test.

Successful candidates will work on an “on call” basis from September to June and must be willing to fulfill all aspects of the role.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Educational Assistant Qualifications: A diploma or degree in a child-related field, with at least six months of post-secondary education and one year of related experience supporting children with special needs, or deemed equivalent by the Board.
  • Child and Youth Worker Qualification: A CYW/CYC diploma or equivalent, with current BMS training considered an asset. The Board will provide BMS training for those not already certified.

Applicants must be physically capable of supporting students with diverse needs, communicate effectively, and be available on short notice for supply positions. The pay rate aligns with the collective agreement.

Applicants must provide a satisfactory criminal background check and pass the physical testing component prior to employment. The application package should include a cover letter, resume, proof of education, and application submitted through Apply to Education.
