Position: Source Inspector

Location: Ottawa, Ontario primarily, occasionally Montreal or Bath, Ontario

Frequency: 1 visit/week on average, 6 hours/week - Part-Time - 1099

Duration: Ongoing contract

Job Description:

The quality inspector will travel to various supplier facilities to perform visual and dimensional inspections on manufactured parts, assemblies, and/or sub-assemblies. Parts will be inspected against engineering drawings, customer purchase orders, industry standards, and specifications. The inspector will report inspection accept/reject information directly to the customer via a web application.

Requirements:

  • Practical experience in performing in-process and final inspections on machined parts, assemblies, and/or sub-assemblies.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and purchase orders.
  • Experience using mechanical inspection tools such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Experience performing First Article Inspections (FAIs) per AS9102 standard and knowledge of military specifications.
  • Minimum of seven years' experience in aerospace or military/defense manufacturing inspections, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Additional Activities:

  • Source inspection to ensure parts meet drawing requirements, including first article, conformity validation, in-process, and final acceptance inspections, and test witnessing as specified by the customer.
  • Process audits, including initial and periodic surveillance, special process capability assessments, and calibration audits in accordance with ANSI 2540-1, ISO 17025, or customer-specific calibration requirements.
  • A background in machining and/or welding is preferable.

  • Perform first article reviews, first piece inspections, source inspections, product audits, and quality systems audits at military suppliers.
