About The Position

Our Marine organization is a trusted provider of innovative solutions for the worldwide boating and boat building industry, and we recently expanded our scope to lead the boating industry into an electrified future. Dometic has won numerous NMMA Innovation Awards over the years and we are always striving for new ways to make boating easier, safer, and more enjoyable.

We are on growth journey – now looking for our next star – a passionate Supplier Development Engineer. This position reports to Supplier Quality and Development Manager and will work in Vancouver, BC.

Vancouver:

Dometic Marine’s headquarters are in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. The facility develops and manufactures hydraulic, electronic, and combustion-based products.

As Supplier Development Engineer, you will ensure 100% of supplier parts meet or exceed Dometic quality standards. Responsibilities include completing PPAPs on time, managing part quality, addressing scrap and MRB, improving supplier production processes, and reducing warranty issues, along with conducting on-site quality audits.

General Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) from suppliers.
  • Responsible for coordinating the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for new supplier part and product launches.
  • Responsible for onsite support of strategic launches and program transfers towards PPAP approval.
  • Manage recovery plans for corrective actions to Dometic Marine manufacturing locations Coordinate, influence or lead suppliers toward product or process improvement.
  • Manage Dometic Marine Supplier Audits as required.
  • Champion the SCAR/8D (Supplier Corrective Action Report) process.
  • Report and manage safe launch performance at supplier locations.
  • Coordinate with various departments such as Design, Strategic Sourcing and Operations; conduct problem investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist suppliers in the development of sampling plans for statistical processes and implement statistical process controls (SPC) into supplier production cells.
  • Determine inspection requirements for incoming supplier parts at Dometic Marine locations.
  • Apply engineering disciplines to maintain the integrity of organizational quality standards.
  • Complete additional job duties and assignments up to 15% of the time.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 35% (domestic and international).

Skills & Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will bring demonstrated success in operational/engineering/manufacturing environment. Additionally, they will have acquired the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Possess a degree in Electrical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering (a Technology or Quality Engineering Certificate may also be considered) and be registered with EGBC as a P.Eng. or EIT, with a strong focus on electrical component manufacturing
  • Minimum of five years related practical experience in dealing with both electronic and mechanical manufacturing suppliers.
  • Knowledgeable in various manufacturing processes, including but not limited to, PCB/A, SMT, IPC standard, casting, machining, injection molding, welding, and mechanical assembly
  • All APQP elements, including Process Flow Charts, PFMEA, PPAP, Control Plans, capability studies, Gauge R&R and SPC.
  • Good knowledge of GD&T and dimensional metrology as well as interpretation of CMM dimensional reports.
  • Familiar with various types of measurement gauges, i.e.: CMM, Micrometer, Caliper, Mueller, Sunnen, Dialbore, Feeler, Pressure, Multimeter, Air gauges, go/no-go.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to manage under very high pressure.
  • Experience in creating, developing, reviewing and auditing suppliers.
  • Practical statistical skills (normal distribution, cpk, ppk).
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001 requirements.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office programs including: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint; and the ability to learn other applications quickly.
