We are seeking a Transport / Yard Operations Supervisor to join our team. If you have a strong work ethic, are driven, and want to be part of a collaborative environment that fosters growth, this opportunity is for you.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Supervisor is a mid-level front-line management role responsible for meeting GT Group’s service commitments by managing daily trucking operations.

Note: This job description may not encompass all duties, as additional responsibilities may be assigned by management.

How You’ll CONTRIBUTE

Planning & Logistics

  • Lead and manage a fast-paced, high-volume transportation operation through a team of dispatchers, yard crew, shunters, crane operators, and front-line employees to ensure accurate and timely container transportation activities and supporting office tasks.
  • Utilize key performance metrics such as on-time pickup and delivery, truck utilization, mileage, container intermediates, and HOS to manage performance.
  • Improve fleet and equipment utilization, maintenance availability, and fuel efficiency.
  • Oversee documentation, transportation, and materials handling activities.
  • Maintain continuous communication regarding freight delivery to ensure all parties are informed and operations are safe and efficient.

Problem Solving

  • Understand and serve customer needs, maintaining positive relationships with key personnel involved in logistics.
  • Respond quickly to unplanned events, adjusting schedules and plans accordingly.
  • Make informed decisions prioritizing safety, service, and productivity, aligned with company policies.
  • Identify risks and collaborate on practical solutions.

People Management

  • Participate in meetings to improve productivity and resolve customer issues.
  • Coach and develop team members with a positive, collaborative approach.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff.
  • Provide orientation for new employees.
  • Foster positive working relationships within the team and across functions.

Safety

  • Promote a safety culture through personal example and leadership.
  • Implement continuous improvement plans to reduce incidents.
  • Identify and correct unsafe behaviors, conditions, and work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Coach employees through safety observations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as required.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • College diploma or university degree in transportation, logistics, or supply chain; terminal experience is an asset.
  • 5-7 years of experience managing dispatch, trucks, and drivers.
  • Training in dangerous goods transportation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of CAN/USA HOS practices.
  • Experience leading dispatch, yard crew, shunters, crane operators, and front-line staff.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with follow-up and follow-through.
  • Ability to lead process improvements and change initiatives.
  • Ownership and responsibility in operations with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation and active listening.
