Job summary

Position Objective

The Supervisor, Support Services is responsible for aspects of Support Services that may include Housekeeping, Scheduling, Portering, or Laundry and Linen across the hospital. This includes ensuring compliance with safety standards, managing financial and human resources, executing operational plans, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and service delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Strengthening teamwork and coordination between the Support Services team, Command Centre staff, and inpatient units throughout the hospital as they relate to patient placement, bed prioritization, and throughput
  • In collaboration with the Manager, the Supervisor interviews, hires, schedules, assigns work to and evaluates the work performance of employees
  • Provide leadership and day-to-day supervision of the scheduling team, including performing hands-on scheduling duties as required to maintain adequate staffing coverage and operational continuity
  • Assist in the development, coordination, and maintenance of master schedules to support departmental staffing needs
  • Performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision and values of Humber River Health
  • Train, coach, and manage the performance of scheduling staff, including conducting performance evaluations and supporting their ongoing development
  • Support the Manager with program-wide initiatives pertaining to quality and standards, and the ongoing competency of Support Services staff
  • Support with investigations related to union grievances by providing relevant documentation, information, and analysis as requested
  • Provide supervision and direction in the 7/24/365 delivery availability and continuous improvement of services that provide patient centered care
  • Analyze and resolve issues in the delivery of patient care in collaboration with other departments (e.g. staffing, redeployment, closures, isolation, infection control, inter-unit issues, etc.); elevate critical incidents (e.g. harm or death of staff, patients, patient families) to the Manager for resolution
  • Supervise and direct fiscal and human resources required for departmental and program operations
Qualifications
  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in Health Administration, Environmental Services, or related field is required
  • 3 years experience in a healthcare environmental services leadership role
  • Certification in Healthcare Environmental Services (e.g., CHESP) is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of infection prevention/control standards
  • Proven leadership in unionized environments
  • Budgeting and resource planning experience
  • Familiarity with quality improvement processes and tools
