Overview

The Sport and Fitness Supervisor oversees all aspects of the Notre Dame Campus and Exchange District Campus fitness centre and gymnasium daily operations and contributes to the overall strategic goals of Campus Well-Being to promote the mental, physical and social health of students and employees. The incumbent ensures sport and fitness offerings enhance the student experience, promote inclusion for all, and drive employee engagement. They provide leadership to fitness centre staff in the delivery of programs and the care and maintenance of facilities and supervise several student volunteers as well as external contractors. They are responsible for monitoring a budget, implementing marketing plans, and maintaining health and safety compliance while providing an environment that is supportive, accessible, welcoming, safe, and free of stigma, harassment and discrimination.

Responsibilities

Lead daily operations of the fitness centres on the Notre Dame Campus and Exchange District Campus.

Provide leadership to fitness centre staff in program delivery and facility care, and supervise student volunteers and external contractors.

Monitor budget, implement marketing plans, and ensure health and safety compliance.

Create an environment that is supportive, accessible, welcoming, safe, and free of stigma, harassment and discrimination.

Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Kinesiology, Recreation Management, Sport Management, or Leisure Studies. Equivalent education and experience may be considered
  • Recognized fitness certification (eg. NFPT, ISSA, CPTN, CSEP, ACE, NASM, or equivalent)
  • Several years’ experience in a sport or fitness capacity
  • Several years in a customer service-related role
  • Experience supervising others
  • Experience managing or coordinating a sport or fitness facility or community centre
  • Proven supervisory skills, including recruiting, scheduling, training, and mentoring staff
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fitness centre and gymnasium operations, including facility management and fitness equipment needs, use and maintenance
  • Excellent event management skills, including planning, communication and execution of a variety of programming
  • Knowledge of effective marketing and engagement strategies for sport and fitness programming within a post-secondary environment
  • Superior communication skills both written and verbal in order to communicate effectively and professionally with students, team members, internal and external audiences
  • Strong analytical and interpretive skills with the ability to synthesize data such as user reports, satisfaction surveys, and user feedback in order to enhance operations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to proactively build relationships to enhance service delivery
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety standards and risk management procedures, including harassment prevention, emergency response and injury prevention
  • Understanding of Truth and Reconciliation and of equity, diversity, inclusion, access and cultural issues
  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
Asset Qualifications
  • Experience in a post-secondary environment
  • Experience delivering group fitness classes
  • Experience conducting occupational fitness testing
  • Experience using Fusion recreation management software
Conditions of Employment
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
  • Incumbent must provide a current and satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Incumbent must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including a Vulnerable Persons Sector Check
  • May be required to work at various RRC Polytech campuses
  • Must be able to lift and move 50lbs or more
