Overview
PMO SUPERVISOR, TAILINGS AND EARTHWORKS CONSTRUCTION oversees safety driven, environmentally sustainable and consistent results in a heavy civil construction environment. Works with contractor management and internal teams to optimize tailings dam and heavy civil construction approaches, while promoting continuous improvement and collaboration with safety and environment groups.
Key Responsibilities
Area 1
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety rules and procedures.
- Be a steward of the environment and ensure that all planned environmental protections and provisions are in place and implemented.
- Work with construction teams including contractor supervisors and in-house resources (field engineers, quality management, surveyors, soils technicians and construction planners) to schedule activities and execute the work.
- Attend daily contractor toolbox meetings and regularly attend worksites.
- Witness, note and engage with contractor resources to promote safe, consistent and sustained results.
- Liaise with tailings, operations and other departments to minimize production and maintenance delays.
- Foster an inclusive work environment.
- Provide clear work objectives and expectations of performance levels required for contractors.
- Ensure training is provided in accordance with current and future needs of Côté Gold.
- Promote a high‑performance culture by setting expectations and providing feedback and coaching.
- Offer new approaches, methods or policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
Area 2
- Lead safe performance excellence.
- Drive construction sequencing towards achieving a realistic baseline schedule and key performance indicator (KPI) goals.
- Identify, support and lead health and safety initiatives, including incident investigations.
- Monitor and mentor contractor supervision with a focus on safety and quality.
- Lead a solution driven approach to construction execution and implement safe construction principles and continuous improvement.
Ensure that employees are kept informed of safety, production, and cost performance data, to encourage growth and participation in improvements to each KPI.
Area 3
- Work collaboratively with others to deliver operational reliability.
- Provide leadership and guidance to contractors, supervisors, equipment operators and stakeholders to meet mine/mill plan objectives.
- Coordinate with team members on site to meet scheduled deliverables.
- Help mentor and train new team members.
- Participate in and contribute expertise to the team.
- Communicate clearly using provided tools; ensure deficiencies are communicated for follow up.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to support the company commitments to team, communities, environment and shareholders.
- Participates in morning safety huddles.
Ensure shift cross over logs are accurate and complete.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves
Minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- College diploma or university degree in a related field is considered an asset.
- Journeyman trade ticket in a related field is considered an asset.
Ministry Supervisory Training considered an asset.
Work experience - Nature & Length
- A minimum of 10 years of related heavy civil or industrial construction work experience with a minimum of 2 years of related leadership experience.
- 5 years or more of technical or supervisory experience is highly desirable, but not essential.
- Proficient in construction planning and management.
- Understand and track construction KPI’s and Labour, Equipment, Materials (LEMs) management.
- Previous exposure to contractor management in a tailings construction setting is highly desirable, but not essential.
- Previous exposure to automated or supervisory controls in a mill is highly desirable, but not essential.
- Previous exposure to lean and multidisciplinary team leadership is desirable, but not essential.
- Digital literacy and experience with maintenance management systems (Oracle) is desirable, but not essential.
- Knowledge and experience in an open pit gold mining environment is highly desirable.
- Ability to make effective, intuitive decisions under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and empower multi-disciplinary teams.
- Proven communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe.
- Self-motivated and driven to find solutions and strive for continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
