Job description

The Mint is hiring a Supervisor, Operations Night Shift who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Ottawa Production & Refinery Operations and is responsible for supervising and leading a team of unionized employees in the Mint’s Ottawa production facility by exhibiting inclusive leadership and coaching qualities. The incumbent will be tasked with continuously improving the safety of the work environment and improving the quality of products while balancing the need to achieve business objectives.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Manage employees in the production section to ensure that production, quality and health and safety (H&S) expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Continuously manage priorities, monitor status, and provide required reports to management.
  • Create, promote and maintain an inclusive and positive work environment in your section.
  • Develop and mentor employees on your team through coaching, training, support and feedback.
  • Establish employee schedules to ensure adequate people coverage, optimal equipment utilization and efficient flow of materials in and out of production.
  • Collaborate with the Quality department to ensure production is compliant with quality standards and follow-up on necessary corrective actions to ensure improvements are successful.
  • Liaise with the planning department to ensure that production plans are in line with business objectives.
  • Maintain a safe workplace by complying with all regulatory requirements, Mint policies, industry best practices, inspections, audits and through management/maintenance of the Lock Out Tag Out program.
  • Motivate employees through interpersonal interactions on a regular basis to foster creativity, innovation and empowerment.
  • Communicate objectives, goals and operational policies to employees.
  • Regularly review key performance indicators and variances and act as appropriate.
  • Lead change and improvement initiatives, utilizing innovation and lean principles to improve efficiency and reduce production costs.
  • Lead by example (e.g. attendance, professionalism, rigorous follow up, H&S, positive attitude).

This role requires the ability to work onsite full-time on night shift from the Ottawa location.

Qualifications:

Languages Requirements:

  • An intermediate level of bilingual proficiency in both official languages (English / French) is required at the time of hire. If a bilingual candidate is not identified, other candidate language profiles may be considered in accordance with the Mint’s Staffing Policy.

Education & Designation:

  • University degree or College Diploma in a related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or lead hand experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably unionized workforce).
  • Experience utilizing modern manufacturing techniques (lean principles) in a supervisory capacity.
  • Previous experience with DAX is an asset.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out is essential.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and standards (Labour Code – employment, workplace health & safety, environmental).
  • Strong time, priority and change management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with other functional groups and external parties.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and profitability.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately.
  • Ability to make decisions with sound judgment and execute on decisions with quantifiable results.
  • Ability to mobilize and lead multidisciplinary teams to address equipment/process issues or drive continuous improvements initiatives.
  • Proficient in the entire Microsoft Office suite, with advanced Excel ability.
  • Ability to lead, develop and motivate employees.
