  • Compensation: $110,000 with potential increases.
  • This role will be Hybrid at the client’s Whitby, ON office (4 days a week).
  • Permanent opportunity + vacation time + comprehensive benefits for the employee and their spouse.
  • Monday to Friday schedule.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversee payroll processes in coordination with the finance department.
  2. Ensure compliance with collective agreements, employment contracts, and relevant legislation.
  3. Maintain payroll policies aligned with employment standards, tax laws, privacy regulations, and insurance requirements.
  4. Accurately process special payments, including taxable benefits.
  5. Supervise and mentor the payroll team, providing guidance on complex issues.
  6. Assist with payroll budgeting and financial forecasting.
  7. Review and approve complex payroll transactions (e.g., final payments, severance, salary continuance).
  8. Develop and enhance payroll business practices, user guides, and training materials.
  9. Act as a subject matter expert for payroll systems (e.g., PeopleSoft HCM, Time & Labour).
  10. Manage user security approvals for payroll-related systems.
  11. Design and deliver payroll training programs (quarterly, ad-hoc, and virtual self-service options).
  12. Serve as the OMERS administrator, ensuring pension compliance.
  13. Oversee payroll reporting (e.g., Statistics Canada, MBN Canada, ad-hoc reports).
  14. Conduct payroll audits for compliance and legal support.
  15. Lead payroll-related projects, including system upgrades and process improvements.
  16. Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Degree or Diploma in Business or Accounting.
  2. Certified Payroll Manager Designation is required.
  3. Over 5 years of full cycle Canadian payroll experience.
  4. Supervisory experience managing a team of 5 (clerks and specialists).
  5. Experience with payroll sizes of 1,500-1,800, including union (collective bargaining agreements).
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. Quick learner, able to adapt to new systems rapidly.
  8. PeopleSoft experience is a plus but not mandatory.
