Your Impact in the Role:

The Supervisor, Municipal Facilities, is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of municipal facilities. This includes indirectly managing a team of facilities staff through two supervisors (Recreation, Facilities), coordinating maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, monitoring capital projects and monitoring the overall condition of municipal buildings. The Supervisor will support the efficient and safe operation of all facilities, lead preventative maintenance efforts, and address any immediate maintenance issues, all while ensuring the team meets the municipality's operational goals and standards.

About the Job Duties:

  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities across municipal facilities to ensure proper upkeep and smooth operations.
  • Coordinate the work of facility staff and contractors, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee facility inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and compliance issues, and develop action plans for improvement.
  • Schedule and monitor preventative maintenance tasks, including routine repairs, inspections, and facility upkeep.
  • Ensure compliance with all municipal health and safety standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
  • Respond promptly to facility-related emergencies, such as system failures, repairs, or other urgent issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Coordinate service contracts with external vendors and ensure quality service is being provided according to the terms of agreements.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the departmental budget, ensures expenditures are within the allocated budget, and provides regular financial updates to the Department Manager.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on facility conditions, maintenance activities, and budget status to senior management.
  • Foster positive working relationships with other municipal departments, contractors, and external service providers to ensure seamless facility operations.

Leadership of Others

  • Guide and support team members to meet operational objectives, ensuring compliance with organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Foster a collaborative and respectful work environment by addressing concerns, providing constructive feedback, and supporting skill development.
  • Play an active role in the recruitment process by participating in candidate screening, interviews, and hiring decisions while ensuring candidates have a positive experience.
  • Facilitate the successful onboarding of newly hired employees by delivering comprehensive training and continuous development, ensuring alignment between their role, organizational objectives, and the municipality’s culture.

Qualifications (Essential & Preferred):

Education & Certifications:

  • Diploma in Facilities Management, Building Maintenance, or a related field.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities maintenance or management, preferably with prior experience in a supervisory role. Experience in a unionized environment, preferred.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be acceptable.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed primarily in an office setting, with regular site visits to municipal facilities.
  • Occasional travel between various municipal properties will be necessary.
  • Standard hours of operation, Monday to Friday, with flexibility needed for urgent repairs.
  • Exposure to potential hazards associated with building maintenance, such as electrical systems, chemicals, or construction materials, may occur.
  • Cognitive demands include prioritizing repairs, maintenance tasks, and resource allocation and conveying instructions clearly to maintenance teams and facility staff.
  • Physical demands include walking, lifting, and inspecting facilities, as well as working in various environmental conditions (e.g., on construction sites, in buildings with varying temperatures)

Work Location and Schedule:

  • 301 Sunnyside Avenue, Cornwall ON, K6H
  • On-site with some hybrid capabilities in accordance with the Hybrid Work Policy
  • Monday - Friday 8:30am-4:30pm with one hour lunch

  • Successful reference check (two work-related references, with a minimum of one being a direct supervisor)
  • Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check
  • Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • Proof of certifications
