Job description

As stewards of the campus, Facilities Management fosters and enriches an inviting and functional environment that welcomes and supports all who come here. Facilities Management clients include faculty, staff and students. Facilities Management reflects high service delivery standards and requirements. The team works together to ensure effective, efficient and safe performance for the operation, maintenance and repair of campus buildings.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Energy Systems and Controls, the Supervisor, Mechanical Services provides leadership to, and is responsible for the coordination of the following trade units within the Mechanical section: lead-hand (bld. systems mechanics), heavy duty mechanic, maintenance worker.

  • Dedication to industry standards and improvements, continuous learning and development and improvements

Specialized Knowledge/Education

  • Interprovincial BC Red Seal Mechanical, an asset
  • Trade certification (pipe fitter, millwright, HVAC mechanic)
  • Training or education in the areas of leadership, management and supervision
  • Safety training and knowledge of applicable codes, standards and WorkSafeBC regulations
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver's licence
  • Gas Fitter qualification is desirable
  • Swimming Pool operator certification is desirable

Experience

  • 10 years experience as a Mechanical Trade Worker
  • 5 years recent successful experience supervisory experience obtained in a unionized building trades or plant organization
  • Working knowledge of building mechanical systems
  • Delivering an effective plant and machinery maintenance program
  • Swimming Pool operation and maintenance
  • DDC controls systems and champion of energy efficiency

Preference may be given to experience gained in a post-secondary or similarly large, complex and unionized organization.

Where available, equivalent combination of training, education or related experience may be considered.

Additional Requirements

Willingness to work any recognized shift, including weekends when required.
