POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Supervisor provides planning, scheduling, and resource allocation within the shop and yard, ensuring freight car repairs and inspections are performed safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate fosters a safety-focused culture, communicates effectively, and drives accountability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a unionized team in maintenance, inspections, testing, and repairs on freight cars, mobile equipment, and vehicles used in plant, yard, and road service.
  • Ensure compliance with Association of American Railroads, Transport Canada standards, and CPKC policies for freight car repairs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to improve operational fluidity and meet daily service and operational plans.
  • Provide leadership accountability for safety, service, productivity, and financial metrics.
  • Promote safety compliance within the terminal, implementing corrective actions and engaging in safety discussions.
  • Conduct briefings to ensure accurate documentation and communication to the next shift supervisor.
  • Mentor and coach mechanical employees, providing active observation and feedback.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Preferred: 2 years’ supervisory experience in logistics or operations.
  • Availability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to analyze root causes and resolve complex issues.
  • Strong attention to detail, multitasking skills.
  • Ability to read and understand safety instructions, operating rules, and regulations in English.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
