Job summary

Canadian Pacific Railway is seeking a hands-on Supervisor to lead a unionized maintenance team responsible for locomotives, inspections, testing, and repairs across plant, yard, and road service. You will ensure regulatory and company standards are met while driving safety and efficiency.

The role requires strong leadership, clear communication, and the ability to coordinate with multiple partners to meet operating plans.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years’ supervisory experience in logistics or an operational environment preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient in MS Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate a unionized team responsible for maintenance, inspections, testing, and repairs on locomotives, mobile equipment, and vehicles used in plant, yard, and road service.
  • Ensure all repairs and train servicing meet regulatory and company standards (AAR, Transport Canada, and CPKC policies).
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance operational fluency and comply with plans.
  • Drive accountability for performance metrics: safety, service, productivity, and financial results.
  • Champion safety compliance by enforcing standards and leading safety discussions.
  • Conduct shift briefings for accurate documentation and smooth handoffs to the next Supervisor on duty.
  • Mentor and coach team members through active observation and feedback.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As a Supervisor, you will take the lead in planning, scheduling, and assigning resources to ensure all repairs and servicing are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. This role is pivotal in driving operational excellence while fostering a strong safety-first culture. The ideal candidate is a confident leader who communicates effectively, inspires teamwork, and holds themselves and others accountable for delivering exceptional results.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Lead and motivate a unionized team responsible for maintenance, inspections, testing, and repairs on locomotives, mobile equipment, and vehicles used in plant, yard, and road service
  • Ensure all repairs and train servicing meet regulatory and company standards, including Association of American Railroads (AAR), Transport Canada, and CPKC policies
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance operational fluidity and achieve compliance with the Local Service Operating Plan and overall Operating Plan
  • Drive accountability for performance metrics, including safety, service, productivity, and financial results
  • Champion safety compliance within the terminal by enforcing standards, implementing corrective actions, and leading proactive safety discussions to foster a culture of safety.
  • Conduct thorough shift briefings to ensure accurate documentation and seamless communication with the next Supervisor on duty
  • Mentor and coach team members through active observation, constructive feedback, and ongoing skill development
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Valid driver's license
  • 2 years’ previous supervisory experience in logistics or an operational environment is preferred
  • Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions
  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues
  • Excellent focus, attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Read and understand safety instructions, operating rules and regulations and other written or printed material in English
  • Proficient in MS Office Outlook, Word, and Excel

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
