Job summary

CPKC, North America's first transnational railroad, is seeking a Supervisor, Intermodal & Automotive Operations to oversee terminal activities, train handling, and intermodal processes with a focus on safety and efficiency. You will lead yard staff, coordinate with Mechanical, Train & Engine, Engineering, and the Operations Center, and ensure accurate documentation and compliant operations.

A high school diploma and 2 years in railroad ops are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency required.
  • 2 years' experience in railroad or terminal operations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize systems such as OASIS, TMS, RPM, and TYES.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience working with a unionized workforce preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and openness to constructive feedback.
  • Flexibility to work in a 24/7 operational environment as required.
  • Willingness to relocate within Canada or the U.S. for advancement opportunities.
  • Bilingual (French, English, or Spanish) is an asset.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage yard operations to meet train schedules, customer expectations, and performance targets.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to terminal staff responsible for executing yard processes.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including Mechanical, Train & Engine, Engineering, and the Operations Center, to ensure seamless execution of operational plans.
  • Issue clear and timely instructions for train movements and yard activities.
  • Coordinate all terminal functions, including hostler, lifter, and truck operations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely updates in operational systems.
  • Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and effectively communicated across shifts and teams.
  • Monitor compliance, identify opportunities for process improvement, and upscale issues as necessary.
  • Lead safety initiatives, including efficiency testing, safety meetings, driver interactions, walkabouts, and securement audits.
  • Manage terminal inventory within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, safety regulations, and collective agreements.
  • Oversee operations related to perishables, ensuring service excellence and safe execution of terminal plans.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

As the Supervisor, Intermodal& Automotive Operations, you will oversee and coordinate terminal activities to ensure efficient train handling, loading and unloading of railcars, and execution of intermodaland automotive processes. Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
