The Production Supervisor-Breeding at Aurora is responsible for planning and directing all phases of a 2000+ capacity genetic nucleus sow farm. It is integral that the Production Supervisor implements action plans to meet farm specific and company set goals by communicating with farm supervisors and staff. This role will set schedules based on company direction and customer demand to ensure maximum quality of PIC’s superior herd genetics. This position is based in Kipling, SK.
Responsibilities:
- Be accountable for the performance and results of a team within own discipline.
- Manage a generally homogeneous team of professionals; adapt departmental plans and priorities to address resource and meet service and/or operational challenges.
- Impact the level of service and the team’s ability to meet quality, volume, and timeliness objectives.
- Conduct all people management responsibilities for direct reports, including but not limited to labor management, performance management, recruitment, and training and development.
- Ensure appropriate staff training and onboarding of new employees.
- Create action plans to ensure the achievement of reproductive key performance indicators on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
- Assist in the development of, as well as deliver, the agreed upon budget area of responsibility which includes:
- Execution of both feeding practices and budgeted feed volumes on a monthly and annual basis.
- Compliance with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Achieve or exceed production targets.
- Order feed and supplies.
Coordinate animal flows and weekly volume objectives by genetic line.Execute health management programs and health reporting functions across the area of responsibility.Maintain record keeping within all software platforms to ensure records are fully updated on a weekly basis.Adhere to the Company’s Safety Program requirements and guidelines, including:- Adhering to biosecurity protocols.
- Adhering to the Company’s animal care policies and procedures for animal well-being.
- Willingness to change plans as needed.
- Ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of the farm.
- Providing accurate and timely production information and records.
- Ensuring timely treatment of sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals as needed.
- Compliance with all environmental laws and procedures.
Ensure adherence to the Company’s animal care policies and procedures, including providing a physical environment that meets the animal’s needs, access to adequate water and high-quality feed, humane treatment of the animals, identification and appropriate treatment of animals in need of health care, and following the guidelines for euthanasia.Direct and prioritize maintenance personnel as it relates to their allocated time in the facility.Provide technical guidance to employees, colleagues, and/or customers.Require in-depth understanding of concepts, theories, and principles in own discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines.Limited travel required; 5-10% based on production needs.Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in livestock production with proven results.
- Ability and willingness to effectively manage 2+ full-time employees.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proactive and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Ability to work hours needed operationally, which can vary frequently and include weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergency situations.
- Willingness to shower daily in and out of facility.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
- Ability to travel approximately 5%.
