Job summary

Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) in Toronto, ON seeks a Supervisor, Elevating Devices to oversee the section, manage overhaul programs for escalators and elevators, and ensure safe, reliable transit infrastructure.

You will lead asset management, coordinate budgets and vendor contracts, and promote safety, compliance, and an inclusive workplace across TTC facilities.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma/degree in a related discipline or equivalent.
• Valid TSSA Class C or Class A Elevating Device Mechanic licence in good standing.
• Experience developing overhaul programs for escalators and elevators including maintenance, repair and project management.
• Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance management procedures and relevant legislation and policies.
• Supervisory experience leading a large team, preferably in a unionized environment.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

• Assists with the supervision and leadership of the section. This involves project management activities, administrative duties, program development, ensuring subordinates are properly trained, along with other responsibilities as necessary. Supervises day-to-day activities related to the work in the section (e.g., inspection, installation, rehabilitation, maintenance, construction, equipment repairs, and other systems in the transit tunnels, stations, buildings, and properties). The role may be responsible for the financial control and reporting for capital projects. Will perform related duties as assigned.
• Develops and delivers overhaul programs for escalators and elevators, including condition based maintenance, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, planned and emergency repair work, equipment replacement, construction work, project management, quality assurance, and performance measures.
• Reviews and leads changes to TTC master specifications and design manuals.
• Develops and oversees Asset Management Plans.
• Develops and administers standards that ensure efficiency, quality of work, safety and effective performance
• Implements and manages quality assurance and control programs to ensure that maintenance activities and equipment meet TSSA regulations and guidelines.
• Supports the development, management, and monitoring of the section’s financial budgets.
• Assists the Manager of the section in the day-to-day activities required to ensure the maximum availability of safe and reliable escalators and elevators in the TTC’s subway stations and facilities.
• Plans, co-ordinates and supervises the activities of the section’s workforce, and manages service contracts with various vendors.
• Addresses environmental, safety, and other compliance issues related to operations in the section.
• Reviews and analyzes data, information, procedures, or other methods; makes recommendations and/or documents as necessary to ensure work is conducted up to standard and in the best interests of the TTC.
• Participates in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.

What Qualifications Do You Bring

• Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid TSSA-issued Class C or Class A Elevating Device Mechanic licence in good standing
• Develops and delivers overhaul programs for escalators and elevators, including condition based maintenance, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, planned and emergency repair work, equipment replacement, construction work, project management, quality assurance, and performance measures.
• Reviews and leads changes to TTC master specifications and design manuals.
• Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance management procedures and techniques applicable to repair, maintenance, replacement and construction of escalators, elevators, and real time monitoring systems;
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical, structural, hydraulic, electrical power, electrical control and computerized monitoring systems related to facility equipment;
• Relevant supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to lead a large team, preferably in a unionized environment;
• Experience leading and executing continuous improvement programs, including root cause analysis;
• Proven project management experience and the ability to work with large budgets;
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, and oral/written communication skills;
• Proficiency in the use of MS Office and other related software including maintenance management and/or project management systems (i.e. Maximo, MS Project, etc.). Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies (e.g. TSSA, CSA, Electrical Code, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Ministry of Environment Regulations, Occupational Health & Safety Act, ESA, etc.) (e.g. Occupational Health & Safety Act, environmental compliances, etc.);
