Summary

BNN Bloomberg is looking for an experienced business journalist with a proven track record of leading a newsroom team, both editorially and operationally. The successful candidate is someone who embraces breaking news and will play an integral role in setting the daily news agenda for Canada’s only television business news network.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and work with team of anchors, producers, chase producers, writers and broadcast associates to help set the daily business news agenda for a Canadian audience
  • Work with unit administrator to determine team schedules, including holiday and leave requests and backfilling
  • Help manage and recruit team of freelance chase producers and broadcast associates
  • Mentor/train staff on business journalism best practices
  • Liaise with Bloomberg’s executive producer
  • Monitor news wires, breaking news releases, CTV News content and Bloomberg partner content
  • Manage a futures schedule to prepare for upcoming major business news events, such as interest rate reviews, federal budgets, inflation rate reports, elections, etc.
  • Help manage and contribute to the team’s digital news output, including writing projects whenever possible
  • Act as point person with broader CTV News team on daily and weekly planning calls
  • Act as quality control for on-air product, providing feedback for editorial staff
  • Plan and Work with senior news team for special projects
  • Other duties as required
Critical Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of business, investment, finance and economics
  • 5+ experience in a newsroom leadership role
  • A self-starter who is eager to contribute to content on multiple platforms
  • Experience producing live news from both an editorial and production perspective
  • Experience working in a control room
  • A team player who gives and receives feedback well
