Job summary

THRIVE Child Development Centre in Sault Ste. Marie is seeking a Supervised Instructor Therapist (ABA) to join the Entry to School Program. This role supports children with ASD ages 4–6 through play-based learning, data-driven goals, and collaboration with families and professionals.

You will deliver the ETS curriculum, lead small-group activities, maintain documentation, and contribute to a holistic, strengths-based approach in a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in ECE, CYW, Autism & Behavioural Science, Psychology, or related field.
  • Experience teaching and applying behavior analytic strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with children with ASD and celebrating individuality.
  • Ability to plan fun, meaningful activities to help each child shine.
  • Knowledge of behavior management and self-regulation strategies.
  • Professionalism and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • Team player with ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication and respectful approach with children and families.
  • Current First Aid & CPR, Vulnerable Sector Check, and full COVID-19 vaccination proof.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel in Algoma District.

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming classroom where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.
  • Deliver the ETS school-readiness curriculum for children aged 4–6.
  • Lead storytelling, singing, play-based learning in small groups.
  • Collaborate with educators, clinicians, and families to support each child’s goals.
  • Follow the Entry to School Program guidelines and work with Classroom Facilitator Lead.
  • Collect and organize data on how children are meeting their goals.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly environment.
  • Be part of a multidisciplinary team including OT, PT, Social Workers, and others.
  • Collaborate to ensure holistic, strengths-based care for every child and family.

We’re a non-profit Children’s Treatment Centre in Northeastern Ontario that provides family-centered, strength-based care.

THRIVE is proud to offer an inclusive, educational, and developmentally appropriate Entry to School Program. This program supports families with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who are between the ages of 3 to 6 entering school for the first time. In this program, we support our clients to further develop their skills in the following areas: communication, play, social interaction, functional routines, behavioural self-management, and pre-academics, learning and attention. In addition, our clients, caregivers and school staff are supported during the transition, through consultation services.

About The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Supervised Instructor Therapist to join our fun, compassionate, and collaborative Entry to School Program (ETS) team! This opportunity (until September 2027, with the possibility of extension), will help prepare children with ASD to thrive in school through play-based learning, developmental skill-building, and lots of creativity.

Our hours are Monday thru Friday and staff work 37.5 hours a week.

What You’ll Do
  • Create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive classroom where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.
  • Participate in the delivery of the ETS school-readiness curriculum for children aged 4–6
  • Lead activities like storytelling, singing, play-based learning, and skill-building in small groups.
  • Collaborate with a passionate team of educators, clinicians, and families to support each child’s goals.
  • Follow the guidelines of the Entry to School Program and work directly with Classroom Facilitator Lead.
  • Work closely with the Classroom Facilitator Leads to collect and organize data about how children are meeting their goals.
  • Support the clinical team by prepare and maintaining accurate clinical documentation.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly and tidy environment,
  • Be part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Infant and Child Development Consultants and other amazing disciplines.
  • Together, we collaborate to ensure holistic, coordinated, and strengths-based care for every child and family we serve.

Required Skills
What You Bring:
  • A post‑secondary diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education, Child & Youth Work, Autism & Behavioural Science, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in teaching and applying behavior analytic strategies.
  • Hands‑on experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) — you know that every child learns differently and deserves to be celebrated for who they are.
  • A natural ability to plan fun, meaningful activities that meet each child where they are and help them shine.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management and self‑regulation strategies, and the ability to stay calm and positive when things get busy or challenging.
  • A strong sense of professionalism and confidentiality (you handle sensitive information with care and integrity).
  • The ability to work well on a team, sharing ideas, laughter, and creativity, while also being confident working independently.
  • Strong communication skills and a kind, respectful approach when connecting with children, families, and community partners.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, plus a Vulnerable Sector Check and proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel in the Algoma District.
