Job summary

Jim Dent Construction in BC is seeking an experienced heavy civil construction Superintendent to oversee field operations on an active project in the Sparwood/Elkford area. You’ll lead crews, manage schedules, and ensure safety and environmental compliance on site.

Required are 5+ years in heavy civil construction, a valid Class 5 driver’s licence, and the ability to read drawings and coordinate with project stakeholders. Join a team that values integrity, teamwork, and results.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in heavy civil construction, preferably in a superintendent or senior field leadership role.
• Willing and able to work shift schedules and travel to, or reside at, remote job sites
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
• Mine Supervisor certification is considered an asset.
• Previous Elk Valley Resources (EVR) or mining experience is considered a strong asset.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate professionally with supervisors, crews, and project stakeholders.
• Strong leadership and crew coordination skills in active construction environments.
• Solid understanding of heavy equipment operations, sequencing, and site logistics.
• Working knowledge of Provincial safety, environmental, and quality control regulations and requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and schedules.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions in the field.

Team & Culture

The Superintendent works closely with the Project Manager to manage daily site operations. This role requires a solid background in heavy civil construction, strong communication skills, and the ability to motivate crews while following project direction. Proven experience coordinating and delegating to field teams is essential, with industry knowledge supporting successful project execution and on-time deliverables.
